I bought my PSP used, and when I got it there were a few scratches on it, far more than the "one or two small scratches" that the guy told me about. I found a cleaning guide on IGN which I followed step by step. I went off to WalMart to buy the three things the guide said I needed, and it worked like a charm. The screen now looks pretty much brand new, and I put a Pelican Screen Guard on there to try to keep it looking that way. I was going to get a different brand, but I couldn't find anything else other than the Pelican brand. I'll get something better in the future, since this brand really does reduce the screen quality.

I have a quick question for everyone:

I keep hearing that load times in many of the games are just insane. Is that a problem with the PSP hardware itself, or just because of faulty coded games, especially ports?
You know, I got tired of worrying about scratching my screen, so I finally got a pelican screen protector... man does it mess the screen up. It also puts vetical lines on the screen. Ugh. Are the mail-order-only full body screens any better? I'm ready to just tape a piece of plastic on it...

The loading times are something that will most likely be improved as games become more optimized. But because of the battery hit the drive takes, I think most games try to load a lot of stuff into memory, to prevent having to have the disc spin much during gameplay and draining the battery.

I recommend the Hori screen protector, looks great and was a breeze to put on. Should be available at your local EB Games for $4.99.

Very interesting article from Official Playstation Magazine of all things. While I think the article is a bit more gloomy that it should be my experience with the PSP pretty much mirrors the article for the most part.

Granted I also think its too gloomy. Sony is raking in money on movie sales and memory stick sales. The PSP is going to be very successful. However, the system is going to be a dumping ground for ports and mediocre games. The current library proves that fully and there are plenty of ports on that upcoming game list.

Yeah, it seems pretty dismal as a gaming device thus far based on what's out there and especially what's coming (depending on what kinds of games you like obviously). The only title in joshd's press release above that brings any interest to me is the Namco Museum (and *maybe* PoPoLo Crois). Everything else listed are the exact same titles or types of titles I hang my head in shame over as I browse through a retail store shelf. I'd really like to get a PSP at some point when there are more games that someone like myself can enjoy.

Yeah, even the upcoming games don't really excite me TOO much.

I'll probably rent most of these....but only a few are need to have. I like SPORTS games, so we'll see which ones I really like...so far they have been letdowns on the PSP.

08/09/05 Namco Museum Battle Collection
09/13/05 Stacked (I want ONE poker game probably...not sure which one)
09/13/05 Burnout Legends (have it pre-ordered)
09/13/05 World Series of Poker
09/20/05 Madden NFL 2006
09/26/05 NBA Live 2006
10/03/05 MX vs. ATV Unleashed
10/03/05 World Championship Poker 2
10/04/05 World Poker Tour 2K6
10/04/05 Virtua Tennis
10/04/05 NBA 2006
10/11/05 X-Men: Legends 2
10/11/05 Gretzky NHL 2006
10/17/05 Midway Arcade Treasures: Ultimate Classics
10/24/05 Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories (have it preordered)
10/25/05 Infected
11/08/05 SOCOM U.S. Navy Seals Fireteam Bravo

I want an RPG! I don't care if it's a port...

I noticed yesterday that Gamma Packs 2, 3, and Classic Pack 1 are out for Wipeout Pure. Unfortunately, I get a connection error when I'm about 1/8th of the way through downloading it. Does anyone know if they're available online somewhere? Not that I've unlocked even half of what is already in the game...

Fifa and Tiger Woods are both 25 bucks at Fry's this week (last week as well). Picked up Fifa, it's decent, though I'll probably skip Tiger because I have Hotshots already. Just a heads-up.

What kind of reviews is the Japanese game Tenchi no Mon getting? We'll be getting that here in the US in a few months, and it looks and sound pretty cool. It's an action-RPG I believe.

I want a meat and potato game for the PSP. Metal Gear Acid was probably the closest. Still, a good RPG (even a translation) would be great.

When it rains, it pours

According to a mesasage posted by SCEA on the official PSP message board, the US version of the system 2.0 software update will not be made available until sometime “during the week of August 15th, instead of on August 12, as previously reported.” Apparently, the patch still needs more time in the oven or something Special thanks to Joystiq user sparkinator2tuf for alerting us to this announcement. For those hankering for the update, I guess its going to be a long weekend

Wonder if the US version of the update will have anything extra that the Japanese update was missing? Probably just under the hood tinkering though that users won't notice.
