My keys to the game, (or at least I thought) were to conserve ammo. This has always been the hardest thing to do in other RE games, so I made it a point to use the handgun and save shotgun/rifle ammo. Unless I was surrounded by 3+ people, bigger guns never received any play. Shooting the villagers in the head and running up to them and kicking them, then pulling out the knife and stabbing them a few times and repeating the process really helped out. I would also wait behind closed doors for the villagers to knock on them, knocking them to their knees, so I could suplex them, or on the ground so I could stab them. I ended up with 200 handgun, 50 shotgun, 20 rifle, and 20 magnum bullets left. I was obviously too conservative.

I personally thought that the bosses were too easy in this game. Saddler was simple and only had to use one or maybe 2 first aid kits to complete the entire game.

I didn't both doing any but one of the training missions. They seemed pointless at the time, but I plan on going back through and beating this game again.

I also agree in that the game was much more scary at the beginning, until it wasnt scary at all at the end.

Overall it was the best RE game in the series.

2 first aids the entire game? i call bs!

You can get by with just the herbs for the most part.

Maybe I suck, but I thought this game was pretty challenging. Not HARD, per se, but a good level of difficulty. I think I died like 40 times the first time through. :) And yes, for the first time in a RE game, you don't have to conserve ammo quite so much. I didn't use my knife at all, and only used my kick when enemies got too close. Otherwise, I was always blowing them away. Definitely the best RE game in a while, and really had some great scary moments. Any time I heard the chainsaw, or the heavy breathing of the Regenerators, it freaked me out!

Nope, no more than 2 or 3 First Aid kits. I am very conservative with my health, and I never really gave any herbs to Ashley, so that saved more for me.
I never needed to buy First Aid kits from the merchant, in fact I probably sold 5 or so kits.

I picked this game up almost a month ago and have played the heck out of it. I have beaten the game twice now, beaten Assignment: ADA, and just beat all the Mercenaries levels with all characters for a 5-star rating and picked up the Handcannon. The Handcannon is frickin' sweet, as is the Chicago Typewriter. I'm playing through for a 3rd time now because I'd like to get that Infinite Rocket Launcher lol. Just an all-around excellent, excellent game.

Anubis2005X 09-17-05 07:09 PM

Okay, just finished, finally! The game is phenomenal. Anyone who has any doubts, please try it out for a bit. I think you'll be impressed. Definitely the best Res. Evil I've ever played. It gave me Infinite Rocket Launcher and some other weapon after the first time playing. Is it based on your results or something? It was just under 20 hours. Did that help maybe?

OldBoy 09-18-05 11:36 AM

what is the best way to get the inf. rocket launcher? how do you accumulate $1 mil and still be able to function in the game?

I think I accumulated 1 million pretty easily by the end of the game. If you are getting all the special gems/items and combining them correctly along with beating the shooting range, you can accumulate that pretty easily.

Joe Molotov 09-18-05 01:27 PM

By the end of the first play through, you should already have all your weapons pimped out so there's no need to spend any more money on that. Also, you should be able to get by on found healing items, so there's really no need to spend money on that either. So you should be able to save almost all the money you find and also you can sell some of your upgraded weapons for big bucks once you get close to your goal.

Dan Average 09-18-05 04:45 PM

I sold my pimped-out weapons at the beginning of my second playthrough. That gave me 700,000 before the game even started; I had the remaining 300,000 by the time I reached the castle. It made the village a lot harder than it would've been if I had kept my upgraded weapons, but no more harder than it was my first time around (and I still had my expanded life meter, so that helped).

Venom 09-20-05 02:21 AM

i liked the the island area alot. true, it lacked a eerie atmosphere, but on the over hand, it was much more claustrophobic. the knife fight, so thick with tension.

the variety of the areas was very refreshing. loved the whole Indy vibe of the mines.

playing with the tommy gun rocks. after i beat the game and the ada mini game i got the gun asap. so easy, but so much fun! although i did get bored on the 4th run through of the game.

i think i'll skip it on the ps2, i played on my brothers cube. would of rather gotten the chainsaw as a new weapon than a taser.

I just picked up RE 4 for the GC. I couldn't resist the $19.99 price being offered at Best Buy.

I should not have waited this long to purchase this game. Best game I have played in ages. :editking:

gimmepilotwings 03-07-06 12:03 PM

Yep, this is one of the games that I will hold onto forever because of just how damn good the game is!

ckw4b 03-07-06 01:21 PM

I currently have the Punisher. Should I trade that in for the Red 9? The Red 9 has much better firepower, albeit at the cost of slower reloads.

1998Nole 03-07-06 04:53 PM

I actually just beat this game today, It was great.

I bought the game for 9.99 at TRU in December and just started playing it about a week ago. This was the only game I played for a week straight it was so addicting could not wait to see what would happen next. I wish I had played it sooner.

jediwicz 03-07-06 08:32 PM

Here's an easter "egg" for y'all. Did you arm an egg and throw it in an enemies face? Classic. I've played through the game six times since it came out last January and find something new every time.

Yes, best handgun in the game IMO. :)

Make sure you can upgrade as much as you can afford ( I go for firepower first then capacity ). Keep in mind as you progress late in the game you well be using less on the handgun and more on powerful weapon like shotguns, rifles, and magnum so tried to get those powerup ASAP.

Baron Of Hell 03-08-06 01:48 AM

I just bought the game two days ago. I'm at the second button smashing point that took me completely by surprise so I died.

Looks good, sounds, plays bad. Just don't like the controls. I keep trying to strafe but you can not do that. Guess I'm to use to mouse and keyboard controls. I hate the over the shoulder view and the free cam sucks also. I want to look at stuff and I have to fight the controls to do it. I probably get use to it. I got use to the controls in the other RE games.

The best thing is the combat. Nothing like blowing some poor guy's head clean off or taking down a group of old people with a kick.

Actually I did as well. I couldn't help it and finished Ass. Ada as well.

It took me awhile because I missed a couple of treasures in the village and thought it would impact the game later on and started playing very conservatively and replayed areas to maximize on efficiency.

I ended up selling all the first aid sprays and a lot of grenades and ammo.

IMO the Red 9 is by far the best hand gun.

ckw4b 03-08-06 10:03 AM

Thanks for the advice re: the Red 9. I'll purchase that gun to replace the Punisher tonight.

BTW - I know this is pretty sick, but Ashley is a hottie!

The neat thing about the game is that with upgrades, none of the weapons ever fall into the category of "completely useless". Even the pistol you start out with is pretty good once it's fully upgraded. Sure, it can't get as powerful as the Red 9, or shoot through stuff like the Punisher, but it still does enough damage to get by. The only weapon that I'd recommend replacing no matter what would be the bolt-action sniper rifle when you can. It's just too slow for most situations.

ckw4b 03-09-06 02:43 PM

Holy cow! I just got my head cut off last night by one of the chainsaw wielding wenches!

Awesome scene!

dom56 03-09-06 03:38 PM

You have'nt seen nothing yet, wait till you get to the Regenerators. First time I got killed by one of them I just kinda FREAKED OUT!!!

I was actually never killed by one of those. They really are not that difficult as people were saying. They are usually too slow to pose too much of a threat. I think this aspect of the game
Spoiler:
using the thermal scope to snipe off individual parasites
was far under utilized in the game. It was such a great idea that I was sad to see that it was used for far too little.

BTW when you get to the regenerators the best way to kill it is to shoot out it's legs from under it. Then just wail away with a shotgun or something equivilent.

For weapons first time through I skipped the bolt action rifle, you don't really need one until the semi auto is available. I got the first shot gun and didn't really upgrade it and passed on the riot gun to go right for the striker. That way I could save some money. Definately get the free broken butterfly and upgrade it whenever you can. It will become your boss killer. Some people think there is too little ammo for the magnum but I actually got a ton of it by killing all the little parasites on the bottom level while fighting the short dude (forgot his name.)

Superboy 03-10-06 03:00 AM

Playing through for the third time now. Getting the Infinite Launcher and Chicago Typewriter was pretty easy although I still haven't gotten my mitts on the Infinite Handcannon...
