Your score is without killing Sinistar? Sounds like you may be on to something then, because the difficulty ramps up pretty quickly when you hit the second stage...

It's just some instinct I still have to get my arse to 6-1 as fast as I can to do the turtle trick. It's to a point I don't even remember what else to do and I'm still stuck on doing the super jumps. Also playing it with the controls semi backwards as I used to use the joystick in my left hand, and on the keyboard I'm using my right. I can't get the top of the flag, except for the help in 4-1. I also remember a jump where you needed to be boosted by a flying turtle to cover the distance.

That'd be 6-3. I hate that level! I used the warp in 4-2 to skip to 6 and tried it last night. I didn't have a problem with that particular jump, but there are a lot of jumps you have to hit perfectly on that level.

Ok, these shouldn't count for scores... since I'm just doing the turtle trick.

And to show that I turned the score over...

No problem. I had to quit after I turned the score over. I had about 35 extra lives. I got there warping from 1-2 to 4-1, then from 4-2 to 5-1. Once I got to 6-1, it all came back to me and did it from memory.

I can't get the games on MAME32. I unzip the files directly into the ROM folder but they don't come up as available. Only 1 game has come up as available. I was able to get Mario Bros to run by double clicking on the file but not the other ones.

Help? Thanks!

Don't unzip the files. Just put the zip file directly in the rom folder.

what exactly is in your roms folder? Anything that isn't a zip file doesn't need to be there.

well i don't know why the zip files aren't working. Maybe you are missing the zlib.dll file in your mame folder. If you unzip the zip files to folders with the same exact names as the zip files like you had dkong, they probably will work.

Where did you download mame32 from?

I found out the fix: I did an audit and now I have the three games

Kind of a pain to audit every time I add games, but what are you going to do.

Thanks for the help!

I don't think you have to do an audit. By default under Interface Options it is set to check for new games whenever you start mame. So closing it and opening it should handle that.

So.. what's the ruling on VS Super Mario Bros? Best score without warping and the bonus tricks? (Of course, you could skip levels with Gaunlet so I leave it up to you) And you never finished the game? I guess I should try to do that and take screen shots. Y'know... for posterity.

You can warp all you want, I was just saying that you probably won't be able to beat my scores when I don't warp.

I think the turtle and timer tricks shouldn't be allowed, and they aren't allowed for high scores at marp.retrogames.com. The turtle trick is particularly pointless because only one more person needs to figure it out and then it would just be between who sat there the longest. The turtle trick is just lackluster

Well, that's why I was thinking, if you anyone else does the turtle trick (and it's not really a cheat, more like a secret bonus) you must complete the game (or at least advance past 6-1).

I was able to get to 6-4.

what's the difficulty of completing the game if you have 100 guys? No turtle trick unless you can get someone on your side to outvote me. Otherwise I'm invoking the power of the Sharpie. The turtle trick completely nullifies the point of keeping score. Getting to 6-1 isn't hard at all, you only have to play levels 1-1, 1-2, 4-1, and the very beginning of 4-2.

OK, time to start picking games. I'll be picking Ghosts'n Goblins if hardcore doesn't beat my Sinistar score.

How did I get high score on vs. Super Mario Bros? I did that on a continue which is why it shouldn't count. Your non-warp score still holds if you didn't use any continues.

Because you're making it too complicated and you were gonna drive me nuts. Either we're counting the turtle trick or not, I don't want to start making all sorts of exceptions. I figured you did that on a warp and you were saying no warps. I'll put mine back up.

Super Mario --> Gun Smoke
Sinistar --> Ghosts 'n Goblins
Super Punch Out --> ?
