Suggestion for first XBOX Live Game

Hello and Happy New Year Everyone

This weekend I'll hit XBOX Live for the first time. I've never seen it in action at all. I just got my router (Linksys WRT54G) up and going and picked up the 12 Month Starter Kit the other day. But now I'm trying to figure which game I need to get "my feet wet" with Live. So I'm turning to the experts here for some hits and helpful tips. This is what I have:

Crimson Sky's - I've already played thru and really like this game. For team base this looks like allot of fun.

Top Spin - I wasn't much on this at first but this is fun and not easy. I'd like to try it with Doubles.

Rally Sport Challenge - Good solid racing game

KOTOR - Unfornunatly I haven't had time to dwell in this yet. I'm in the middle of Halo, Top Spin, Rally Sport, and LOTR Return of the King.

I know HALO 2 rules Live but I'd like to finish Halo 1 first. If any type of game really interest me is has to be a team base one. I'm a Unreal Tournament type you may say. Thanks for you help and time and may everyone be safe this weekend.

KOTOR is not Playable on live. There is downloadable content for it though. If you like team games I would suggest you pick up Counter Strike, you can find it cheap and it is fairly easy to play.

Part of the problem w/ XBL is that for many games there are only a relatively small group playing online actively. Top Spin is a perfect example -- there aren't a lot of games, and the people playing on there are AWESOME. Seriously, they will hand you your ass 6-0, 6-0.

That being said, the bigger titles seem to have a better mix of people. Project Gotham 2 was a lot of fun. I would imagine Crimson Skies would be as well.

But, I read your post, and YOU NEED TO GET ON HALO 2 ASAP.

I mean, I understand that you want to finish the first one, but Halo2 is abot 400x better than any of those other games, and if you join our clan (hint, hint), you can play all the team based carnage you can handle. We have about 6-10 guys on every night. All capture the flag, assault, etc.

I didn't even like Halo 1 that much, and I am playing this stupid thing EVERY night.

I really can't emphasize enough how much Halo 2 rules on live. You should get on it and join our clan -- we can always use some fresh people.

Besides Halo 2, out of those you listed, I think Crimson Skies is the most fun on Live. But you don't have to worry about anything being ruined story wise for Halo or Halo 2 by playing the Halo 2 multiplayer on Live. Since you like team-based games in the vein of Unreal Tournament, I'd strongly suggest going with Halo 2 on Live. If you wait, once you do play it you'll be kicking yourself for not starting to play on Live sooner.

haven't played it in a bit, but Crimson Skies is also my favorite on Live.

I like FPS, but tend to get my a$$ handed to me by everyone who has a lot more time to play than I do.

With Crimson Skies I at least felt competitive most of the time.

Either Crimson Skies or Halo2. Both are great games, and you can find enough people playing to have fun.

HALO 2. I've totally ruined my sleep patern since getting on line with this game. And who says you have to start on the Halo 2 missions anyway? The online part is like a separate game really.

Many people haven't heard of this niche title that both introduces the series and says good-bye to it.

What is nice about Halo 2 is the awesome matchmaking bit that pairs you up with people relatively as good as you. Yes you get unfair matches sometimes, but for the most part i feel like i can at least be doing mildly well. And if you get in on some of our clan games it is even more fun. I mean, just go play against Spiderbite if you want to play someone easy to feel competitive.

Just to say thanks to all for their suggestions and help. A special thanks to "DamingR" for the invite which I accept. I can tell you I'll be a good "practice dummy" at first. I'm still trying to get use to moving around and looking using the controller. Playing Unreal Tournament with a mouse and keyboard for a couple of years is a hard habit to loose. I think I'm on "Whimp" setting in Halo. I guess I'll start looking into Halo 2 for it's "Live" only but I'm still set on finishing Halo 1 first to get a feel of the story line.

So for now I guess it's the sky with Crimson Sky's as my first venture. I still may look at the "Ghost Recon" stuff since it reminds me of Team Fortress and Half Life. The new MechAssault 2 looks fun as I played the earlier stuff (Dos/Win95/Win98). But it's the new Unreal Tournament-The Liandri Conflict that I'll keep an eye on. Happy Gaming to All and Safe Holiday's.

I've been playing alot of Ghost Recon 2. It's pretty cool online, but for some reason it takes a really long time to search for games. I don't know if it's my connection or what, but it takes ages just to search for a optimatch. I got 2 different X-Box Live subs, so we get 4 people going at once and just usualy end up hosting matches and hoping people join up. It's a blast though, haven't even touched the single player part of the game.

I'm also play alot of Counterstrike on XBL.

I noticed, and hate, this as well. Nothing like getting the baby down for a nap having anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours to play, and I end up playing for 20 minutes and waiting for an hour and a half.

I know that you're playing Halo1 and that's good, because you really need to play that one first to understand the storyline. I would say to play Crimson Skies between your bouts with Halo1. Then get Halo2 and play through the single player before playing Halo2 LIVE. It will help you alot.

There are still alot of players playing Mechassault1 and that's about as easy of a game as there is to get you started on LIVE.

Good luck on your LIVE gaming.
