"At EGM, we evaluate only game that have been deemed final and reviewable by the publishers. Three editors rate each game independently, and we use the whole scale. 5.0 IS AVERAGE."
The bold and all caps is their emphasis, not added by me.

The bottom line is that a 5.0 rating is a crap game...not an average game, a crap game...it might not be Barbie's Horse Adventure crap but it's still crap.

See, I define a crap game as something Like Barbie's Horse Adventure. Something no one in their right mind would want to play.
A 5.0 game could be something like a mediocre movie game (like the Incredibles which one reviewer gave a 5.5) which is ok to play, especially if your a fan of the movie. That's not the greatest example as the other two reviewers scored it higher, but you get the drift.
But I agree that often times they slightly over score games, throwing off their system some. But nothing like the online sites or mags like Gamepro or OXM.

Just bought the game for $10 at Toys R Us. Definitely worth it. Looks good on a 16 x 9 hdtv, even though it's not progressive. Weapon designs and environment is awesome. It gives you that grainy feel, which I've noticed, Xbox games (Halo 2, Ghost Recon 2 looks so damn clean) can't really do. Can't wait for Killzone 2 for the PS3!

Seriously, let's see a list of some games that scored 5.x that are not pure and total crap. Games that most self respecting gamers wouldn't even think about wasting their time on.
To say games that score 5.x is average, not crappy, is insane. For a game to get that low of a score, it's got to have major problems start to finish, top to bottom, period.
That said, I think Killzone is a perfectly acceptable "average" game. The score is right on target also, with a 72.5% over at GameRankings. Now that score, that game...that's an average game.

Silent Hill 2 on the Xbox have a grain filter you can turn on and off, while the ps2 version has the grain indefinitely.

A friend of mine told me this about Killzone, "If you forget about games like Halo and can look past how much stuff sucks, it's a pretty sweet game."
I never decided to play it after that.
