I bought it yesterday. Pretty fun. You can control and point your team to do certain stuff for you....all the while shooting it up and so on.

UPDATE:

Contacted LucasArt and they were aware of the problem. They said to set the xbox in screen format from widescreen or letterbox to normal and it would solve the problem. I asked if this would stretch the image since my philips automatically sets itself in widescreen at 480p & 1080i and answer was no. Will check it out tonight.

by the way, I don't have xbox live, so that's out of the picture for me.

If this is TRUE, I may have to return the game......I will refuse to change my setup everytime I want to play a game.

That's why I detest and don't play Soul Calibur 2.

I rented Republic Commando last night and played through a bit. It started out really cool... I liked the intro alot. The gameplay is a little same-y and somewhat caffeinated rather than fast-paced in an exciting way. It's not bad - I kinda wish the controls were a tiny bit tighter, but so far overall I like it.

BeanDip0001 03-02-05 06:02 PM

i just got the game today, and popped it in, i haven't had any problems with getting to work in 480p on 16:9. it didn't make me change anything. seeing as halo is the only game i've played on xbox fps wise i think the starwars was kinda strange, but i have to admit the online multiplayer plays almost just like UT2004. so after a few games i was getting headshots and topped out at 14 kills in a match. i like this game its a good thing away from halo 2. if you even thought about getting this one grab it it is worth the cash IMO

Can you describe settings and hardware you're using?

BeanDip0001 03-03-05 02:15 AM

well i use a viewsonic N6 box with a sony lcd monitor, and i have the xbox set to run 480p 720p, 1080i and the dashboard is running in 480p, so when you put a game in it does a little flicker when the xbox logo comes up and then back to 480p. anyhow the xbox is set to letterbox and the sound is set to digital. i didn't have any trouble with the game at all and it was in 480p the whole time.

i also took my game to a friends house awhile after i got it he has a samsung widescreen tv one of the flat 24" or 26" whatever it is, anyhow his xbox is set to widescreen with just stereo out on the audio and the same thing his dashboard is in 480p and when the game came up it came up in 480p and it looked awesome on that tv, ah if i just had money to get one. anyway maybe it is just your disc, in 480p the graphics on this game are a lot cleaner than in halo 2, but lucas arts makes eye candy.

mapasu 03-03-05 08:58 AM

I tried it last night in normal mode setting and the game worked. It wasn't stretched.

BeanDip0001 03-03-05 01:00 PM

i don't know, but the game is fun i've been playing and can't stop

DJ_Longfellow 03-05-05 12:08 PM

Yep, the game only ran in 480i on my TV. Really pissed me off too. Lucas Arts better release a patch for this soon. The graphics are not bad or anything, but it's just annoying. I don't feel like switching my dashboard settings everytime I want to play this game.

So, if you set it to normal, does it run in 480P? Does it crop shit off ifyou have a WS TV?

How is on-line play concerning the amount of on-line players? Is this game slowly taking off and being accepted or shun in favored of Halo, Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon and such. I talked to Bean alittle about it and I didn't realize it plays like the UT2004. Of course being a fan of the "Unreal" series I'm now giving this game a look. The only downside I've heard is single play doesn't seem long enough. But is really anybody on-line playing this? I've seen a couple of Halo clan members mention this which helps.

The first day no one was on but in last few days there have been tons of people. I've only played Deathmatch games so far so I don't know what the other games are drawing. I'm having a lot of fun online.

DJ_Longfellow 03-07-05 06:48 AM

I just hope they release a 480P patch....although, the game is very fun. I've played 1 player a lot.

Does anyone know how long the game is????? I'm on the wookie planet (I won't go into further detail)

BeanDip0001 03-07-05 07:43 AM

short but you have a ways to go and the ending sucks just like halo 2's ending

Thanks...how many different worlds are there? I consider the wookie world to be the third one.....I think I'm almost done with that world.

Spoiler:
Just blew up the middle of the bridge with the rockets

I'm about 2 hours past that. The game is great stuff. I've finally figured out how to effectively command the other dudes in my squad. But, I have died about 50 times (probably more) so far.

Giantrobo 03-07-05 09:39 AM

It would be cool if the next Halo could have a squad system like this. It would be great to command the marines and actually have them stay alive with you throughout the game.

Republic Commando is very a cool game.

It's okay (PC version). The controls seem really loose and my guy can't hit the broad side of a barn. I also have difficulties shooting over things - it looks as if I have a clear line of fire, but yet my shots hit a barrier. Just seems a little sloppy.

Controls seem tight on the XBOX version. I have noticed a few times where it appeared to have a clean shot, and it hit a rock or something....nothing major though.

wmansir 03-07-05 02:08 PM

I finished this this weekend after about 10 hours of gameplay, which is very short for me because I'm a perfectionist type player who will reload a game a few times to see if I can do an area better.

I would give the game a B. It could have been an A- if it were a bit longer. The game has very good environmental quality. Voice acting is solid, graphics are good. There is a nice array of weapons. The gameplay was good, but not great. The squad based commands are VERY simplified. This is much closer to Halo than Rainbow Six. Still, there is enough there to mix things up nicely compared to your standard FPS.

Something about the gameplay didn't seem right though. The standard weapons are underpowered, and it seems most grunts can barely hurt you and you have to pump a ton of shots into anything above the grunt level. The game also relies on one type of enemy (the Super Battle Droid) too much. These things aren't too deadly, but they take a ton of damage. I think they tried to extend gameplay by having you sit around pumping rounds into these guys for a couple of hours cumulatively.

BeanDip0001 03-07-05 04:46 PM

I thought the game was great, but it felt like it could handle a couple more lvls, i liked the single player better than multi because you can control your squad. but multi is fun even though its just like playing unreal

i thought the pc version sucked compaired to the xbox and i have both, because some friends refuse to play xbox because they can't use the control. i thought the pc version was a little off the mark. the gameplay in the xbox version and the controls are much better.

Just got this game this weekend. Diggin' it thus far.

I agree with two of the comments above. The game, even on XBox, was loose. I'd turn around to get a guy behind me and spin too far...or end up looking in the air when I wanted to look up just a few feet. I changed the sensitivity tho and that seems to help. And the fact that you have to put WAY too many rounds in a Super Battle Droid. I dunno, maybe I got spoiled from being able to drop them in a couple shots in Battlefront. :) One EC grenade in a crowd of them let's you walk up and melee them pretty easy.

My kids play online more than me, but we are XBox Gamertag: JKMC Jedi
