My Xbox plays the DVD+RW discs that I have burned with no problems at all. I have yet to try a + or - recordable.

I believe that the different drives in the xbox (thompson, philips and samsumg) have different reading abilities when it comes to burned media. The thompson reads the least and the samsung reads the most.
