PS1 games on PS2 Memory cards (question)

Just wondering if I could save PS1 games on a PS2 memory card. Such as if I were to play a PS1 game on my PS2, can I save my progress on a PS2 card or would I have to get a PS1 card?

Have to have a memory card for each game format.

You can use the PS2 memory card to store PS1 saves (copy them from PS1 card to PS2 card), but to save to and access saves they have to be on the PS1 card. I frequency copy my ps1 saves to the PS2 card because the PS1 cards fill up so quickly, and I don't like deleting them.
