I have the airship and have visited the dragon king. I have been through the helfire 3 times now there were 2 choices each time on which boss to kill. I can't figure out where to go next.

The Hellfire Chasm is bonus... no real need to do it.

What you want to do is get the Rat Tail from the Citadel of Trials (the building directly east of the Dragon Cave islands). You'll need to park in the north and walk (west) around the mountains to get to it.

Get the tail and then go back to Bahamut.

Good luck.

MrPink 01-10-06 07:49 AM

I think I figured it out. I already had the rat tail I just figured out how to get to the underwater cavern.

The last third of the game goes very quickly. Enjoy it.

And FYI... I saved my game on Save 2 and Save 3 and went in and whooped Chaos again and chose the "Clear Game Save". All it does it put a star next to the save (in this case Save 3) and when you load the game you start with the 'select your party' screen and your bestiary is still intact. So now my cart is set up with:

Save 1: All four crystals lit, standing at the front door of Chaos' room

Save 2: Same as Save 1, but I used Exit to stand at the base of the tower, so that I can go to all the extra levels

Save 3: "Clear Game Save" so I can start over with my bestiary still there.

Sometime this weekend I'll start FFII.

So you can't do the bonus dungeons until you solve the game? Does that mean you have to play through it twice or do you not have to level up your characters to be able to go through the bonus dungeons.

Goldberg74 01-10-06 02:06 PM

You can do the bonus dungeons as soon as you open them. I just chose to go through the game first. I knew that they were extra and not necessary for the story, so I blew them off.

Think I'm finally going to pick this up. Have a $25 GC to amazon, so should be able to get it for around $5 shipped.

Was trying to decide between this and FFIV, but that ones $5 more on Amazon now for one game as opposed to 2, so I'll pick it up later. I'd kind of like to play them in order anyway, 1 and 2 now, wait for the DS remake of 3, and then get to 4.

lotsofdvds 01-13-06 01:49 PM

So why are FFI, FFII and FFIV out but no III?

There's a remake coming for the DS. Guess they started on it later, or it's taking longer, than the remake of IV on the GBA. Probably just taking longer as it's a much more comlete remake I believe (fully 3D).

Stupid game on Amazon went back up to $29.99 by the time I got home. But there were a couple marketplace sellers with lots of feedback selling it new for $14.99 so I ordered from one of them.

This game was 9.99 at Toys R Us when they did the clearance sale before Christmas. If you can find it I'm sure the price is still the same.

V-ism 01-15-06 07:56 PM

I got this a few weeks ago at Toys R Us. 9.99 and I had a 10 dollar gift card so I paid 80 cents. Finished FFI a couple days ago. About 13 hours of play for me.

The Dude 01-15-06 08:03 PM

You guys talked me into getting it (will be picking up IV after I finish these two) ; should be here sometime this week.

Goldberg74 01-15-06 08:55 PM

I can't get into FFII... might be the leveling system.

Oh well... gotta try.

Josh H 01-17-06 02:59 PM

Have to give a huge thumbs up to amazon seller vancleave books. Had the game factory sealed for half the price of Amazon and I got it today when I ordered it on Friday!

Hope to dive in to FFI tonight or tomorrow.

Excellent! I ordered from them on Saturday, so hopefully it will arrive tomorrow; now I just need to finish up Dawn of Sorrow. Damn soul collecting is a bitch.

Played FFI for an hour or so last night and am enjoying it so far. I did forget how annoying the super frequent random battles were though. :D

I love how they made it more accessible by leveling up faster and especially getting more gold quicker so you dont' have to level up for ever over and over to get the power and money you need to upgrade you equipment to move on without getting slaughtered.

tor_greg 01-19-06 01:08 PM

I like that they balanced out the money system, but the leveling is a bit off in this altered version. It seems like I level up every 5 minutes and I'm always way to powerful for my enemies. Usually in combat all I have to do is hold down the A button, whereas in the original you actually had to think things out. I'm hours in, and I haven't been wiped out yet. I wouldn't be saying that with the original difficulty.

I don't like having the level grind, either, but this goes beyond that. At least make it somewhat challenging without grinding.

Josh H 01-20-06 04:47 PM

I'm having the same experience, but don't really mind. Not a fan of hard games.

I still had some problems in the Marsh Cave, had to leave, trek back to town, revive a couple characters and buy a shit load of potions and antidotes as I'd ran out.

But I have had no problems with the bosses thus far (through Astor, the dark elf). Beat them all in a couple turns. But I think I'm just over leveled as each time I get to a town I've been killing enemies outside to buy at least the bulk of the weapons, armor and spells I want. For Astor I just checked a faq and they suggested being at around level 8, I was around 20 when I fought him. :D

tor_greg 01-21-06 02:46 PM

Yeah the vampire went down without even getting a turn. There's easy, and there's this.

Josh H 02-19-06 11:22 AM

Finished FFI last night, not sure how much I'll bother with the various shrines. Beat one of the bosses in the Earth shrine so far.

Is there any real point to it (like the added story in the FFII bonus stuff)? Or is it just to get items I don't need since I beat the game and to test yourself against tougher bosses?

I ask as the game got a little tedious since I was way leveled up (65 or so for the last boss) and mainly just held down A for the random battles that happen every 10 seconds.

PixyJunket 02-20-06 08:48 AM

Nope, just new monsters and items to make yourself even more overpowered.

The bosses in the bonus dungeons are all from Final Fantasy III-VI.

Josh H 02-20-06 10:48 AM

Cool. Guess I'll pass on that for now and go on to FFII.

I've never played FFII through V and it's been ages since I played VI so I won't recognize any of the bosses anyway. I'm planning on playing through the series as the ports come to the DS/GBA.
