Wow...Chronicles of Riddick is Awesome!!
I just got an Xbox this weekend, and I bought a preowned Chronicles of Riddick at Gamestop. I am a big fan of the movies...but I know usually how movie-based games are --- they suck 9 times out of 10. This one doesn't suck....it is the best movie-based game since Goldeneye on the N64. The graphics are amazing...the story is very engrossing. They should make a new movie based on this game being it is a prequel to Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick. The action is cool...it is kind of like Metroid Prime...being more a 1st Person Adventure rather than a 1st Person Shooter. What are your thoughts??

This is just about the only game I've seen released in the last few years where everyone pretty much loves it. I guess I'll be picking up a used copy soon.

The thing i loved was the story. It was so integrated into the play that you think you are playing a movie. Truely unlike any other game out there. Not to mention the voice acting is great. Cole Hauser even repises his role as Johns. The only other game out there that succeeds at this level, of story seamlessly branched with cut-scenes, is Beyond Good & Evil.
You just really can't go wrong at under $15.

I've been hyping Chronicles since E3 - it came out of nowhere and blew me away. I had it as one of my best of E3 games. The graphics are incredible and the level of detail is off the chart. Only problems are that it is a bit short (but only by a bit) and some of the non-human enemies were half-assed.
It's coming to the PC in a Director's Cut version with new areas and such - of course, better graphics. I picked it up on Black Friday for 10 bucks at EBGames.
I don't agree with the comparisons to Metroid over other FPS games... I think this is a perfect example of what a true FPS is all about. There are RPG elements in it where you get missions by talking to people and there's also lots of stealth stuff. This is a genre shifting game... this is where FPS games should be headed. Trespasser was awful, but it gave you a chance to see your own body (or boobies as it were)... Even Duke Nukem allowed you to see your own feet when you kicked or stomped a mudhole in someone's ass. Breakdown gave you even more of a feeling that you had a body and mass and you weren't just a pair of eyes floating in the air as so many other games do. Riddick did what Breakdown did, but they did it right. It's a beautiful game and if it wasn't for a slew of other unusually spectacular high-profile releases this year, it would certainly deserve Game of the Year. I think it's better than Halo 2.
They're making a sequel to this game - it's a good thing.

Yeah - Vin leaked it in an interview recently... I think there's news bits on it over at IGN and Gamespot and the usual places. It's a fantastic game engine, they would be crazy not to license it and make more sequels with it.

Yes it is! And a good starting point for the Series of media involved with Riddick.
The Time Line is:
Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay Xbox Videogame
Pitch Black movie
Dark Fury anime
Chronicles of Riddick movie
The game explains some of the background of Riddick and how he get's his eyes shined and somewhat of his Furion background. The new DVD release scenes that they added back to the movie explain more about his Furion side too.
It's a cool Sci-fi series to get into. Granted if you absolutely hate Vin Diesel the game is part of his "Riddick" world so you do hear his character and voice throughout. I still recommend it if you enjoy adventure type games.

I have this still sealed and waiting to be played. I just saw the movie this weekend, I thought it was absolutely terrible, but I won't let that affect my judgement of the game. I liked Pitch black though.

I liked the two films...i have not watched the animated one though.
I promise you will like the game...it is a separate movie within itself.

I finished it yesterday and forgot to come back and comment... anyway, the ending was sweet. Fantastic game start to finish. I'll play it a few more times I'm sure.

I am loving this game...but I am at a part that is kind of frustrating...I feel like i went maybe too far ahead and forgot to do something. I am at the part where you go down the elevator to the mines. I have no gun nor can you pick up the assault rifles anymore..which is weird because I did the DNA thing earlier and I was able to use them...but the guns just shock the heck out of me now. Anyway I am lost here....to stay alive i have to do some "extreme stealth" stuff. Which makes me think maybe I shouldn't be at this point yet...but I don't think the game would let me go here if I was not supposed too. I tryed to get through parts of this area for 2 hours last night. I thought I was making progress...I found a key card but eventually I ended up back near the beginning. Which frustrated the heck out of me!! To top it all off....when the game autosaved the last time I only had 1 box of health...so i get killed fast if I am spotted. Anybody else have trouble with this area???

It's been a while since I played it but I definitely remember having a gun going down the elevator shaft. I distinctly remember sniping the guys across the bridge(at the bottom of the elevator shaft) a few times.

well do you have to do the "DNA" thing again in the mines...because when I try to pick up an assault rifle down there it shocks me. I might need to start at a checkpoint before the mines...

I agree, I'm really surprised at how good this game is.
To help you out in the mines. I've gotten past them. The only weapon I had there was a stun gun. The assault rifles don't work with your DNA because you've been recaptured, if you don't remember, by the warden so I'm assuming you've been disabled to use them again. It took me a while to figure out how to get out of the mines, but all you have to do is search for Jagger Valance ( i think that's his name ) and once you find him it's easier to get out and continue with the game.
If you need help finding Jagger, let me know. I didn't want to spoil it for anyone.

Thanks Toilet...that makes sense about being recaptured...I had forgotten about that. That is why you can't use the assault rifle. I appreciate the offer for help, but I will give it another shot tonight and see if i can make it through.

I got to the elevator part and decided I wasn't done doing odd jobs for the other prisoners in the previous area, so I went back a few checkpoints and squeezed another hour or two out of the game.
