Ugh, after three hours of playing Mario 64 I'm really getting frustrated not to mention my thumb feels like its going to fall off. The digital control is a pain in the ass on that game and I can not get the stupid thumb stylus control down. Why couldn't Nintendo just put a damn analog stick on this thing like the PSP and Zodiac have.
I'm doing pretty decent with the thumb stylus on Metroid, but not Mario.

Ive gotten use to the D-pad on mario now. Still not the greatest thing on the earth, but its gotten better (especially controller Mario instead of Yoshi). So far 48 stars.

Ugh, I got back from Walmart after picking it up at midnight, turned in on just to check it out, and I have 2 dead pixels on my touch screen. The Walmart I went to only got 20 units in, and they are all gone now because there were more than 20 people in line. Anybody know how long Walmart's exchange policy is? I know the dead pixels won't interfere with gameplay, but dead pixels just flat out suck. Right now I'm letting it charge to get a full battery, so I haven't really played with it yet. If it's done before I fall asleep, I'll pop in Mario.

ToysRUs.com (Amazon.com) has this in stock right now (just listed) with a 2-3 day wait.
Limit 1 which is good. At least a few people get a chance. Not expected to last long at all.
I bought one. I need a second for a Christmas gift and will be checking the stores in the AM.
From now on, I will just pre-order and skip all this nonsense. lol.

Super Mario DS (the new 2D Mario in the spirit of Mario Bros, Mario Bros 3, and Mario World) now has a release date of 1-10-2005 at Gamespot.com.
I for one will be getting it. It's a title I am very much looking forward to as I liked the older syle Mario games much better than the current ones (well Paper Mario 2 was very good).
I hope the release date sticks. I didnt think we would be getting the title for a very long time.

Anyone know whether some of these stores will be offering a freebie when buying the unit this week? I know lots of places typically give away at least a free case or something.
Also, has anyone seen the price at Costco yet? That's where I'd prefer to get the unit, since they've got an awesome return policy.

Just picked up my DS at Target. They had a whole stack of them plus tons of games, so I grabbed Mario. I'm not digging the control scheme just yet, but it's only been about 30 min. This will definitely take some getting used to, but I can see the potential for other games.

Just got one at Best Buy ... there were some people waiting at the door for about 15 units in stock, but there was no rushing and at least 7 left after that initial rush.

Although I noticed Target had the lowest price on Spiderman $28.88 on sale everywhere else I've seen is $39.99

I'm still blown away at how good the virtual surround sound is. This unit has some really nice speakers. Thankfully mine didn't have any dead pixels, but I know that can happen on LCDs.

If anybody knows, how hassle-free is Walmart with their return policy? If I try exchange the unit after a couple of weeks, would they possibly think I somehow caused the dead pixels, and refuse to do the exchange? And if I choose to go through Nintendo, how are they with exchanges?
BTW, Mario 64 DS is going to take some time getting used to. A little weird using the touch screen as the analog control, but I'm starting to get the hang of it. When I first turned it on, I didn't even know how to hold it and which hand to use for the touch screen. The game looks great in motion though, and the sound is much better than I expected it to be. I guess since the DS is a handheld, I was just expecting audio only slightly better than the GBA.
Haven't had a chance to test out any multiplayer yet, nor PictoChat. I wonder if I'll detect anybody nearby when I bring it to school tomorrow. Biology lecture is going to be so much more bearable now.

I just beat the bomb omb for the second time and running circles around him was a breeze with the thumb stylus. It is not 100% perfect, but its much better than the digital pad and you won't have all the thumb pain from trying to move in 3D with the digital pad.
I'm really starting to like the DS now, but it does have a learning curve compared to standard handheld systems.

I'm guessing the only places to look for this game are game specialty stores, like Gamestop and EB. Anybody know if BB, CC, Walmart, or Target will get it?
BTW, Mario is getting easier to control. I can't put it down. Has anybody tried the multiplayer yet? If so, how long does it take for the "empty" DS to download the game?
