Yeah, Ghosts and Goblins was wicked hard. I remember getting lucky a few times and getting pretty far, but usually I got my ass handed to me in the first few levels. Kids today who bitch about how hard games are should go back and play that game.

I never did beat Castlevania (NES) either. Always got stuck at Frankenstein. I may have to pick that up for the GBA at some point and see if I can't whip ol' Frankie's ass.

Fast forward to 2004, and I can't beat Castlevania Aria of Sorrow either. Stupid Death. I have fought him SO many times and cannot beat him. Grr...

Oh, and who can forget Ikari Warriors? Wasn't there a glitch that actually prevented you from finishing the game. My brother and I could get to the last guy, sitting behind his desk, but once you killed him, you were stuck in that room until the missles appeared and killed you. What a gyp, man!

While there are other games I've never put the effort into finishing, the one that has always haunted me is Legacy of the Wizard for the NES.

I got it as a Christmas gift one year from Grandma and Grandpa. It was certainly interesting and fun but I could never get past a certain point. The game is broken down into four areas where each is designed for one of the family members. You can not just do one after another, as you need to find the appropriate item in another member's area for a family member (i.e. The mom needs a wand to move blocks to complete her level, but the wand is found in someone's elses world).

I played and played and the best I ever did was complete two family members' areas, but I could never find one item to continue.

You've got to be fucking kidding me.

I was using a walkthrough that just read something like: "Go back to the gate, where there are some guys guarding the hostage, and complete the mission." I didn't think "complete the mission" = "walk into certain doom."

My old college roommate did the same thing. He couldn't figure out why he couldn't beat the level on the easy difficulty.

Resident Evil remake is currently owning me, I am just not good at conserving ammo while trying to stay alive. I don't remember 2 being that hard back on the PS1

I spent ages on this one Spawn Armageddon level, level 17 I think, when you go into hell. Some of the worst controls combined with platforming is a bad thing. Should have just stopped playing but I was close to the end, eventually beat it.

I am pretty bad at FPS, currently having trouble with Timesplitters 2 on the first level, trying to do all the objectives and beat the level.

I got the Mega Man anniversary. Tried beating a level in Mega Man 1 a few times, couldn't even get to the last boss.

I remember ghouls and ghosts, I don't think I ever got very far, but I guess I never really thought about it being impossible.

Street Fighter 2010 The Final Fight For NES

That game had a very tough boss at the end. I could never beat it.

Which part are you having trouble with, exactly? I remember that it was a bit of a difficulty jump from the rest of the game, but all of the last bosses attack's were avoidable, once you learned the signals for them and the patterns.

I never could beat any of the Battletoads games. I also never could beat Tyson in Mike Tyson's Punchout.

As others have mentioned, Ghost N Goblins for the NES. Yes the part with the flying red devils is insane. But my cousin I did beat the game twice in a row when we were younger!

I still hate that game to this day.

One of my favortie series ever, but boy are those games difficult! I beat the 2nd and 3rd but never the 1st, not even with a Game Genie (oh...the good ol' days!)
Also Castlevania and Metroid were pretty hard as well.

I agree with the hostage rescue in Goldeneye, I felt like I should have had my mail sent to that secret lair's address!

Same here. Once I got my ass handed to me about 100 times by the final boss, I decided to give up.

TMNT - NES -- Yea, the water level sucked. I had a good strat for it but it always involved losing one life. I remember playing with my cousin and I was thrilled to reach the footsoldier town or base or whatever. And we finally got to the big rolling dome thing but died.

Wizards and Warriors - remember this game? I finished it, but you had to be meticulous and have patience like no other. Collecting a certain amount of gems on those huge levels. Making a no-screwup jump in the lava cave or else you tumbled to the ground and had to do it all over.

Good times.

I got stuck at the last boss of this one too. I was fine until he takes out his big arms and starts swinging them around the screen. Sometimes you had to jump over it, and sometimes you had to not jump, and I would always do the wrong thing.

Castlevania

Hard.

I made it up to Frank as well. Never got past that. Even on the GBA.

Old Nintendo titles are annoying nowadays. The annoying slowdown, fallingi into floors for no reason, dying for no reason, etc., is just annoying.

They could have at least fixed the bugsfor the GBA.

Yeah, that's kind of tricky, but it's easy to tell if you just look at how close the incoming arm is to its shadow. This will give you a good indication of if its coming high or low.

Zero Tolerance for Sega. Started basement levels with full load of weapons. Part way in the section no weapons and kept running out of weapons with hordes of enemies chasing me.

There is only one game that I have played that has beaten me.
I tried and tried for hours to get past one scene, and was unable to do it. I ended up selling my whole SEGA GENESIS because of it.

Jurrasic Park.

I could not get past the scene in the lobby where you have to crawl up in the ducts and drop to the skeletons of the T-REX. I had no idea what to do. It really pissed me off. DAMN YOU JURASSIC PARK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember that game. There was one part where you had to run across an exposed cat walk and mysterious snipers would shoot you from nowhere.

I also remember being chased by ricockulous amounts of bugs and having nothing to shoot them with except some crappy flamethrower.
