Toys R Us Green Tag sale - 70% off....$15.90 for Live Starter kit!
Welp, I just picked up another one of those original Live kits at Toys R Us (1 year live, headset, and demos for Whacked! and Moto GP) for $49.99 and 70% off....$15.90. A few weeks ago I got one for 50% off...the newer ones with Crimson Skies for $25 from there (Employee was a moron he overrode the price in the computer even though it was $69.99)....but since then they raised it to 70%. They got this green price tag sale going on with various items....They also had a 5 inch portable Xbox screen for $169 and 70% off THAT. I grabbed the last 2 starter kits today. At $15.90, I couldn't resist, grabbed the 2nd for my little bro whose Live will be up in a few months
In the end I paid $40 for 2 years of live, Crimson Skies, and 2 headsets...can't beat that! Now back to Halo 2
So check your Toys R Us's in your area.

Don't the original $49.99 Live starter kits have expiration dates on them? I vaguely remember looking at one of these a couple of months ago and, according to the side of the box, it had expired.

I have some general Live questions.
1. If I can find this, can I add the year to my existing account now or do I have to wait until it is about to end?
2. Can the extra headset be used by guests that log on with me?
Thanks.

To answer some questions....
Yes, all the items marked with that green price tag, as I mentioned at the start of the thread, ARE 70% off now. At my local TRU they had the sign above any aisle that contained them "While supplies last".
I didn't know about the expiration....I guess I better check the box.
12 month Live kits have these scratch off tabs that reveal a code, it looks just like the normal MS product serial number, you just imput it into the Live menu. When your subscription is almost up, you just imput another code and it adds it on. I took my free 2 month trial and then popped in the 12 month code right after and now it says I am paid for until like Jan 06.
If you play on Live as guest with someone else who has a Live account (Such as on Halo 2) you cannot use a headset only the account owner can.
I just started using Live the other week, if not for these deals I got I wouldn't have bothered...I got a wedding coming up and I am broke...But Halo 2 and Crimson Skies are GREAT! My gamertag is Wompratz if anyone wants to join a game with me.

UPDATE AND A WARNING: The BOX itself does NOT have an expiration date, HOWEVER, the Live manual inside the box states on the 4th page that the sub must be used by 10/03! How STUPID is this? Why place it inside when you won't be looking INSIDE when you purchase it. So I called up the 1800 XBOX phone # and talked to this very rude woman who told me "NOTHING I can do about that....You yourself SAID it was old" I said "I said OLD as in its not one of your newer Crimson Skies sets you have out now." To which I got silence and then "Any other questions?" I never once raised my voice, but as soon as I mentioned my problem she got VERY offensive in her tone. What a bunch of morons!
Luckily I just spoke to Toys R Us on the phone who said they would return it for me even though its been opened for a refund...the guy there told me "Well, what can you do? Bring it in" Its a legit sale they have, and I told the dude they should remove all further copies of this set from the rack, although I believe I had the last 2 in my hands :P

No because I didn't want to risk not being able to return it to Toys R Us after seeing that I removed the subscription label/scratched it off. Plus I already have a year subscription in place, I was hoping to use this one once THAT had run its course. But in any case, I just returned it and got my refund and the subject of my topic still counts for other video game items they have in stock.

I just tried to buy a few green tag games but they were not ringing up at 70% off. They just rung up at 50% off. And before anyone asks...yes I did total them and I even bought a Dreamcast game at 50% off.

Yeah it was 50% a couple weeks ago, I went in today and it was 70%. Thats a hell of a deal for one of those LCD screens...Other stuff marked were S-video and link cables.
So the expired Live kits will STILL work when entered? The nasty MS woman I spoke with this morning didn't make it sound that way. She gave me this garbage that gave me the impression that any kit from a year ago + would no longer work.

I went to check but I didn't see any green labels on the Live Starter kit.
Do you have to purchase the item in order to get that discount?
What brand of LCD Screens are green tagged?
I didn't see anything mention above being green tagged at all or the 70% off sale.

YMMV on this one big time.
I work for TRU and I sold one those new Xbox live kits with Crimson Skies a couple hours ago and it still rang up 69.99 + tax
