Yah, that's why I really dug it. It seemed so-so at first, but the more I think about it, the cooler it is. I might play through the game again now, and look for all of the easter eggs. What an immersive experience.

I was kinda dissappointed with the story of the game. Everything else was amazing. One of the best looking games that I have ever seen. Now on to Halo 2.

What is the problem? I backed it up and burned it, but haven't tried to install it on another machine yet.

Ok guys, I need help:

I'm in the "Follow Freeman" stage, I believe, and
Spoiler:
I have the two striders i have to beat. I took one down, using all my rockets, and now the other one is still strolling about, and I can't do crap!
I think I missed something, but one of my squadmates said "we created a crater, if you can get there, you should be ok". Well, I found the crater, I think, but there's nothing there to help me out. Help me...please!
what a friggin great game.

thanks guys

Okay, so I'm dying to play the game, but I won't be able to upgrade my computer for at least two or three months. Will I be able to run it with this?:

Win2000 pro
1 ghz P3 (x2 - dual processor)
1 GB Ram
GeForce 3

I know I won't get anywhere close to being able to turn everything on. But I'd just like to be able to run the damn game without it being Chop-City. Anyone?

Just beat the game over the holiday weekend. It kind of sucked because I was 3/4 done, and then my computer starting freaking out on me so I needed to reformat and I forgot to backup my game data. I had to go back through all of it, but no big deal it was still fun.

Coming this week (hopefully): HL2 Deathmatch

Hopefully the maps will be packed to the gills with throwable objects, since the standard weapons (i.e. everything except the gravity gun) are pretty dull. Why not a real screenshot? Don't ask, I've given up on trying to figure these guys out.

Edit: Okay, it's out now. Supposedly. Haven't tried it yet myself. Apparently it's a very small release, just two maps carried over from the single-player game. :((((

Spoiler:
not crater...CRATE. They dropped a CRATE of rockets while running across the plaza. Its all the way on the other side of the plaza. Go down and through the crater, come up the other side and run to the building with the columns in front.

Thanks Charles,
about a 4 hours after I posted that, I finished the game, thanks though. I thought someone else would have replied a bit sooner but guess they were all playing hl2 themselves. And I for one, loved the ending

Gave it a try but so much lag that did wasn't fun. My computer will barely handle the SP game so likely won't go back to it until after I get a new computer. I loved HL1 MP and see no reason why HL2 MP won't top it from what I could see and what people are saying on other sites.

As far as only 2 maps, more will come. Give Valve credit for listening to the fans who really wanted HL2MP. They listened and gave it to us. Soon they will add more maps and mods will appear shortly.

I played last night on a full server, and at first, it was lag-a-licious. But after a few deaths, things normalized and shooting became really accurate. It was pretty fun and a fast, fast game. Although, I did like HL1's DM, I think I'm liking this more. I loved playing on crossfire, and crossfire2 is out, now I just need to go download it when I get home. I can't wait to try this on LAN in a few weeks.
This game just keeps getting better and better.

WOW! I finished the game just now! Absolutely triple fuckin A Awesome!

Spoiler:
I couldn't figure out what to shoot at in the End game. I just stood there picking up the energy balls and shooting around the whole area. Then, instead of standing between the energy poles, I went to right. And, lo and behold, I could see clearly. Didn't take too long to finish after that. Helluva lot easier that the end of Half Life 1. As for the end, the G-Man owns Gordon.I liked it. Does that mean Alyx died at the end? He doesn't get to bang her?

And was the gravity gun incredible, or what? I nearly shit when all the weapons were taken away, but, Goddamn, I didn't need them. Fuckin loved pickin' up those combines and throwin' them around.

Best game I have played this year. Game of the year. Beats Doom 3 by a mile.

There were some things that I could be picky about, though. The load times for one. Christ when I went into a new area and the loading screen came up, I made a pot of tea, watched The Lord Of The Rings trilogy ( the extended editons, mind you), read War And Peace, watched every second of The Ultimate Matrix boxed set, then went back to my PC, and the damn thing was still loading!

Spoiler:
Didn't know if I should put spoiler tags, but, I figured better safe...

Squads.I hated them. Fuckers were mostly a hindrance rather than a help. I enjoyed sending them to their deaths. I mean, I tried to tell them to stay put until I checked things out, but, like my wife, they just wouldn't listen. Unlike my wife, however, I could kill the fuckers off. Hey, when you're trying to back away from danger and Action Man behind you blocks your way there is only one thing to do, send fucktard ahead of you. Christ, that was the most frustrating thing about the game.
Dog, however was so fuckin cool. I would love to have an add-on, or mod, that just has Gordon and Dog.

Okay, who zoomed in on Alyx's ass? C'mon, admit it.

Great game. Sad it's over because I am not one to replay a game, not for years anyway, and I definitely don't do any online play.

Wonder how long before an add-on is released? I'd pick that up in a heartbeat!

I finally bought HL2 this past weekend. It runs fairly well on my system, but it does get choppy in places.

My specs: P4 2.5 ghz, 533 mhz FSB, 512 megs of RAM, GeForce4 Ti 4200.

I jumped the gun and ordered 1 gig of RAM, thinking that would help. Then I started researching more and I think I might be more CPU or video card constrained than RAM.

Before I could cancel my order, crucial.com had already shipped (the one time a company is uber-efficient). I can probably RMA the memory even if I open it and try it, but I was wondering if you guys knew if the extra memory would make a difference. Should I use that money for a new video card instead of more memory?

Go over to steampowered.com forums and ask your question with your specs, but it seems to me that people who go from 512 to 1 GB RAM say they see huge improvements. Your problem may also be the stutter bug that may or may not be fixed anytime soon.

Thanks. I'll post over there but I'm leaning towards trying the RAM (assuming crucial doesn't charge a restocking fee).

By the time the steampowered.com forum admins approved my account for posting, the RAM was pretty much already here.

Absolutely NO benefit. Less than .5 a FPS in either direction, depending on the timedemo map. I guess I would be better off using the money for a new video card but I think I'll just stick with what I have. That's one of the reasons I got into console gaming, I just got tired of chasing specs.

I guess I'm going to have to wuss out and start playing on 'easy'. I'm on normal and it's driving me nuts. I'm constantly at less then 20 health and I'm tired of doing the same parts over and over again. Save, die, reload, die, reload, die, reload, make it a bit further, repeat. It kind of loses it's immersive atmosphere when you die a lot. Those damn flying blade things are pissing me off.

Just wait for Ravenholm. My Lord, I kept dying all the time, sometimes by my own stupidity from fear. But it was still awesome. You shouldn't die so much, just go at things slowly. You really should not run and gun it through the entire game. It took me about 2 weeks to finish, playing at least 4 hours each day.

What video settings are you using? May want to back them down a little and see if that helps. I would still post over at steampowered and see if those guys have any advice for you.

Also, defrag your HD if you haven't in a while. That really helps quite a bit.

The flying blades just take some timing. If you can, get a doorway between you and them which will slow them down. Also, with the crowbar, I find it easier to back up when they are coming at you while you time your swing. Maybe that will help.

Don't worry, once you get the gravity gun they become trivial. Just suck em in and shoot em against a wall and they die instantly.

Cool, I didn't know you could do that to the manhacks.
