Xbox: Split screen vertical instead of horizontal

On my brothers' Xbox every FPS we play (SW: Battlefronts and Halo2) it splits the 2 player screen vertically instead of horizontally. For the life of me i can't find a place to change this setting so i'm turning to dvdtalk for help. Any ideas?

It's been answered before, but you have to change your settings to non-widescreen, otherwise it'll do the vertical split automatically.

So to play horizontal split I can't use the widescreen format, that seems lame (unless I am missing something). Xbox is one of my favorite uses of my 51" widescreen tv

that is true.

but, imo, a horizontal split on a widescreen tv doesn't make much sense nor very feasible.

Why would you want to split the widescreen picture horizontally? Doesn't make sense at all. They picked vertical for a reason.

I agree with the others on this one.
It just makes better sense: If you've got a widescreen TV, split the picture so that one is on the left, the other on the right.

If I misunderstood you then I apoligize.

Your field of vision is narrower with a vertical split than with a horizonal, even on a Widescreen TV. You can see more above and below you, but I'd rather be able to tell when people are coming up beside me.

i understand the desire to see more to the left/right but on a widescreen tv, it is too wide. the game would need to render 3d stuff too much.

i just don't see that happening on an xbox. i guess they could have given you a 4:3 split horizontally on a widescreen tv w/ black bars on the sides.
