Recently a friend of mine's PS2 started bugging out. Basically when you get to a main menu of a game (any game) the cursor (for lack of a better term) keeps scrolling. Almost as if you were holding down on the controller. He tried different controllers, different games, and both controller ports. Everytime the results were the same. Has anyone had this happen before? If so any suggestions to remedy it?

Sounds like the common un-centered analog stick problem, but if it's doing this with other controllers and both ports.. it's probably something worse. If you feel comfortable, the controller ports unplug from the main board fairly easy.. if you've got someone willing to let you take their PS2 apart you could try swapping another controller port to yours to see if that fixes it, and if it does, scope out eBay or other PS2 parts shops on the web for just that piece.
