I recommend it. I've been playing multiplayer FPS games since, quite literally, two weeks after Doom 1 was released. In all this time - probably a hundred different games - very few fundamentally depart from the Doom deathmatch model. Tribes was one of them; Unreal Tournament's CTF and Onslaught games were others.

Counter-Strike is a third. It doesn't follow the typical pattern of "spawn, find weapons, kill enemies, die, respawn." It's a structured match that requires teamwork and a little bit of strategy. It's quite good.

A word of caution: Play on the normal mode. On the Hard mode, the enemies really start feeling like aimbots. You'll get sick of walking around the corner, seeing one frame of a terrorist, and getting head-shot. And since the enemies spend a lot more time camping, this happens a lot more often. The Normal mode feels a lot more like you're playing against human opponents.

If some people are cheating, then I hope they compensate for having small penises

So far I've been having fun, even if I'm not really good. My name is "DeadMeat" after all -smile-

I thought VAC was supposedly kept pretty up-to-date with the cheats. Supposedly, the penalty now is a ban off Steam for up to several monhts. It really was quite brilliant for them to maintain control over the games with Steam, but I hope they don't start to slack off on the catching up with the hacks.
