CounterStrike : Source

holy cr*p!!!

That is just the most awesome thing i have seen in years!

I played CS a lot back 'in the day' and signed up for the steam silver package, so i could play it until HL2 comes.

My oh my.. CS is back with a vengeance! Hope more maps are ported soon - this just blows my mind!

*off to play more dust*

edstein 10-29-04 01:09 PM

This game has great graphics, too bad I suck ass at it.

ravan 10-29-04 01:14 PM

I used to be really really good.. Or my memory tells me I was.

I no longer am. Gotta get back into it!

Of course I can entertain myself all day by watching the ragdoll killing and shooting barrels and bottles.

Groucho 10-29-04 01:52 PM

Still a bit buggy, but enjoyable. I like the custom tag option.

RalphWiggum 10-29-04 03:42 PM

I'm a FPS fan from way back, but I never got into multiplayer games. There must be something to this game, though, since it is still the most popular (I think) multiplayer FPS game after several years.

I have played Unreal Tournament, and other deathmatch type stuff, but I get bored with it pretty quick. Is Counterstrike a different experience? Is it even possible to jump in this late?

*LOL* thats too funny! I played since CS 1.0 beta I think.. way way way back!

gorgo99 10-30-04 11:06 AM

I've been wanting to get this, but holding out for a new video card... is there any site that shows the specs of what it takes to run this well? I'm not TOO bad off, got a 128MB Geforce 4400... but it's not DX9 compatible.

hahn 10-30-04 11:43 AM

Try the new 6600, though it may only be out for PCI-express right now.

Capo2002 10-30-04 02:37 PM

CS:Source kicks ass indeed, can't wait for the rest of the maps to come out.

Jackskeleton 10-31-04 03:45 AM

Jumping back into it takes about a good 3 or 4 rounds, but after that you get your groove back and it's all good.

sfsdfd 10-31-04 12:35 PM

 I remember that PA comic - definitely one of their ones. I love the expression on Tycho's face in the second frame.

ravan 10-31-04 01:30 PM

so far its taken me a good 200 rounds and i'm not quite there yet.

there is a LOT of cheating going on :(

ravan 11-01-04 01:35 AM

You're kidding right? :))

There are known anti-flash cheats as well as aim cheats out there right now. There is also the good old 'speed' cheat where someone zooms around the map at 100 mph.

I've seen all three with no chance of being even remotely wrong.

Dont get me wrong, there are a lot of better players out there than me - but i know when i'm beaten fairly and when a guy makes 15 headshots in a row ...

Jackskeleton 11-01-04 03:54 AM

It's like going to the town whore. You know you are going to get an STD, so why bitch about it? either enjoy it and accept what it comes with, or just don't use it.

Cheating will always be a part of it. It still can be fun with it all going on.

Groucho 11-01-04 08:05 AM

 Either ravan is responding to a ghost, or somebody deleted the post that was between his too posts.

Yeah, there's a lot of cheating...but if it gets excessive there's no shortage of servers.

ravan 11-01-04 08:47 AM

I dont generally bitch about it - I was just responding to someone that basically wrote that there wasnt cheating and that there always would be better players.

hahn 11-26-04 03:16 PM

Any news on whether new maps or new items are coming out? Rumor has it that they will be introducing vehicles.

BizRodian 11-27-04 12:09 AM

How about letting me practice in a bot mode or something? that would have been nice.

Nothing makes you learn faster than playing with pros. :D

Anyone here ever frequent the West Coast servers? I'm on as Mr. Pink.

I don't want to learn. I want to have fun :(

Valve makes an entire single-player version of CounterStrike called Condition Zero. It's quite good - I played through it this week.

hahn 11-28-04 12:54 PM

Didn't know that CZ was single player. I have it on my computer (from the Steam client), but haven't tried it. I heard the multiplayer isn't as good though, for whatever reason.

damn_skippy 11-28-04 03:03 PM

Man cheaters are up the ass it seems. One guy had 10 headshots in a row last night. It sucks that the cheating has already started.

jaeufraser 11-28-04 04:51 PM

So, I played CS a couple times back in the day. I sucked, never bothered again. Now I've got the Source version and I've got to ask...is it just this team play? Where's the deathmatch option, or is that not available?

If so, is Valve going to release like a real HL2 deathmatch? CS is cute and all, but I'd really like dome deathmatch rounds with HL weoponary, especially that grav gun. Or is that a pipe dream?

I recommend it. I've been playing multiplayer FPS games since, quite literally, two weeks after Doom 1 was released. In all this time - probably a hundred different games - very few fundamentally depart from the Doom deathmatch model. Tribes was one of them; Unreal Tournament's CTF and Onslaught games were others.

Counter-Strike is a third. It doesn't follow the typical pattern of "spawn, find weapons, kill enemies, die, respawn." It's a structured match that requires teamwork and a little bit of strategy. It's quite good.

A word of caution: Play on the normal mode. On the Hard mode, the enemies really start feeling like aimbots. You'll get sick of walking around the corner, seeing one frame of a terrorist, and getting head-shot. And since the enemies spend a lot more time camping, this happens a lot more often. The Normal mode feels a lot more like you're playing against human opponents.

Dude - i'm just that good!!

(yes they is a lot of cheating... it was ok for a while, but has gotten worse again :( )

Darkfriend 11-28-04 06:26 PM

If some people are cheating, then I hope they compensate for having small penises

So far I've been having fun, even if I'm not really good. My name is "DeadMeat" after all -smile-

hahn 11-29-04 02:59 AM

I thought VAC was supposedly kept pretty up-to-date with the cheats. Supposedly, the penalty now is a ban off Steam for up to several monhts. It really was quite brilliant for them to maintain control over the games with Steam, but I hope they don't start to slack off on the catching up with the hacks.
