I'm all for an autosave feature or even better just save anywhere. Especially in games with branding storylines, nice to be able to go back and try another path without having to replay all that came before.

I believe ALL GBA games should have a quicksave feature. Especially RPGs.

Certain games, like Resident Evil for example, ramp of their difficulty at least partially through limited save points. You really have to plan out when and where to save, and if you're not using a walkthrough, you have to wonder whether you can survive to the next save point. I think in that case, save points are a good thing.

On most games I rotate three save slots, for just that purpose.
Checkpoint or autosave plus save-anywhere would be ideal.

THIS IS A GREAT TOPIC!!! Save Points are one of the key elements of whether I will like a game or not. I hate redoing areas I have already completed. All games should have a save anywhere feature like the Legend of Zelda series. I don't think it makes a game less challenging...it makes a game less frustrating and more enjoyable. I never have gotten into the Resident Evil series due to its crappy save feature. I hate ink ribbons and typewriters!!!! The bottom line is I will not finish a game that has a crappy save system. Sometimes I only have time to play for about 15 to 20 minutes....I can do that with the Zelda series....but I can't do that with alot of other games.

me too... that's my complaint with this type of system

With save points that's almost never a problem.
True, but game makers can easily get around that by making it so when you die, you transport back to the last town or something.

God, listen to all you whiners with your "save points"! You make me SICK. Back in my day, we had THREE lives - and that was it. No saves, no continues - and we LIKED it. If you didnt have Da Skilz, then you died - quick. Period, end of story.

If you want a challenge, and I mean a REAL challenge, then play your games Iron Man style. If you get eaten by a zombie in Resident Evil once, take the game out of the drive and snap it in half.

I don't like quicksaves because I become obsessive about it. Once I indulge, and I know I'm invincible, I will jump off every cliff to search for secrets. If its a turn based strategy game, and it saves a random # generator seed with the save, I find myself saving, doing the battle most efficiently (loading many times in the process). It makes me cheat, so I try not to do it.

Yes. I hate having to replay areas just because there's something hard right after where I die repeatedly. I'd much rather be able to save right before the boss or whatever and not have to play the same prior section over and over.

And those games with three lives--didn't *end*! You can 'Defend' all you want, the aliens will just KEEP COMING. Clean out the universe of Asteroids, there will be some more coming in from the universe next door.

"I never have gotten into the Resident Evil series due to its crappy save feature. I hate ink ribbons and typewriters!!!! "

Agreed.....Not only were you limited on saves, but the more saves you used, the lower your 'score' at the end of the game!
I know, 'fewer saves = more challenge/mood,' which could really ONLY apply to games like RE, Silent Hill, etc.
But the mood in my mind was 'I can only save three more times? Screw that'

Or you could just kill yourself if you die in the game, Dungeons & Dragons style. It adds that extra level of excitement. You can tell all your friends "See, I told you I was hardcore" before you go.
