I'm curious, too. My new laptop is ready for me to pick up from FedEx (didn't hear the delivery guy this morning), 3 days early. I really wanted to dive into the game this weekend, but may wait before I open it up.

it complains about certain software installed (clone-cd and such programs). one person said it complained because of a nonworking shortcut on the desktop.
there is more info at the boards over at ea and thesims2.com
some people got it to work by using alcohol 120% and emulating a drive.

I've got the DVD version and haven't had any problems (though I don't have any of the software mentioned above).
Anyway, I'm likeing the game a lot. The whole asprations and fears thing adds a lot to the game (though I hope they add more personality types). Also building houses is much cooler in full 3D and with the extra options.

If you play with the families that are already built, you pretty much have a storyline. The cool thing is that the town is like a big soap opera. Your actions in one family may affect other families. For example...Cassandra Goth's goal is to marry the town lethario Don, but when you play as him, his goal is to sleep with as many women as he can. Will the two get married...stay tuned! :-)
Also playing in the Create A Sims mode is different. You now have aspirations and you are given certain goals to meet those aspirations before you die (yep! Your Sim can die of old age now!) The goals change daily and may range from "Buy a Stove" to "Make Woohoo with 3 people". There are also Fears now. If one of your fears is that Molly won't accept your invite to come over and that actually happens, your aspiration meter plummets! The goals aren't as linnear as the Sims console games (you have to meet certain goals to advance to the next house), but the goals in Sims 2 seem to affect the game play more which makes it more fun.
Great graphics...more interesting gameplay...HILARIOUS "Woohoo" scenes... Definitely worth getting!

I can't wait to pick this up. I was hoping somewhere would have it on sale. I hate paying full price for a game.
Maybe I'll wait a few weeks and just keep watching the flyers.

No problem with my DVD version here, except that EA's new copy protection scheme forced me to turn off my Paragon CD emulated drive and completely uninstall CloneCD from my computer before I could get it to play. LOL, a couple more days and a nice hack should appear to get around that.

Picked it up from Circuit City. Pretty good price. $39.99 and they give you a $10 gift card on the spot.
Fun game. I'm playing as the bachelor guy and having fun trying to get him to make woohoo with all the ladies.
I picked up the DVD version. No problems for me either. Well, with the game.
I'm trying to register it, and it keeps telling me that the name I pick to register on the EA site is taken. I've tried 5 names so far and each of those 5, when I choose forgot password tell me that the name doesn't exist in the system.
Their registration system must be having problems.
