I saw a preview video at frys today, and now my interest is peaked. Looks pretty sweet.

How long does it take to beat the game?
According to Lionhead, the main game straight through is about 30 hours, but that's if you don't do many sidequests or explore the world. For the average gamer, expect between 50-70 hours of gameplay the first time through

Whew, just got finished reading that Harry Potter book sized preview and my excitement for this game has just reached the "Holy Sh#t" level! Ive been following this game ever since it was called Project Eco, Ego or something like that. And after reading that preview im totally sold. Sept. 13 cant come any sooner!

Sounds better, maybe they got some negative feedback after giving the 20 hour estimate for playing straight thorugh the main game.

At any rate, I'll wait for impressions here and see how long it's actually taking people. I have no time for gaming right now (nor this fall) anyway. Metroid Prime 2 will probably be the only game I pick up in the next 6 months as I'm super busy with work and getting my Thesis done and have 4 games sitting waiting to be played already.

Even if it was only a 20-hour game (played straight through), the replay value alone means that you can play it through again and get an entirely different experience. Much like Kotor.

I struggle getting motivated to play thorugh games again. I love KOTOR (bought an X-box for it) and I've still never played through it a second time.

I just have such limited amount of time for gaming with school, work and other hobbies that I don't have time to play games I want to play the first time, much less replay them. Plus I'm on a VERY tight budget.

So what I try to do is only buy the games I really want and think are a good value for their genre (i.e. 15-20 hours for platformers, 30-40 for RPGs, etc) otherwise I pass on them and wait for a sub-$20 bargain and pick them up sometime when there's nothing new coming out that I want at the moment.

This and Dead or Alive: Ultimate are two reasons that may finally get me to buy an X-Box.

Checking out IGN's preview after reading the tiny one in EGM.... game sounds fantastic.

I hope you're right. My friend and I pre-ordered ESPN NFL 2k5 from Gamestop (me), and EB (him) and he got his at least 20 hours before I got mine. I even ordered a month before him, and we both had overnight shipping. Maybe it was because of where we both lived (me CA) (him PA) but still I hated waiting while he brushed up on his football skills :lol:

I've ordered from both companies, and generally with Overnight shipping get the game the day after release (which is usually Monday, so I get it Tuesday). In fact, a lot of times I've ordered from them with 2-day shipping and got it overnight. I've found it's the fastest way for me to get a new game, and have been generally satisfied ordering from both companies.

Usually I go with Gamestop because they are better about shipping notifications. With EBGames, they ship it, and by the time I get the email telling me "It's shipped!" I already have the package.

the length of the game - 30 hours straight and up to 70 hours if you take your time, etc sounds great to me.

i forget how long kotor took for me to finish... but i remember being disappointed b/c it was a little short especially when you factored in all the loading times and just walking to get from one place to another.

I hate pre-ordering, especially after watching all the people have problems with other big release games.

But its ok to preorder this game, so you can preorder this game without fear. I promise. (personally i only preorder for bonus extras, artbooks, soundtracks and the like)

I only pre-ordered because I want the game as soon as possible. I don't feel like waiting a few days after its release for Best Buy to have it, even if it meant saving $5 with the GGC. I also didn't want to keep calling EB and Gamestop and asking if it'd arrived yet.

I also pre-ordered GTA: SA so I am set for the next couple months :D

Yeah, the new length range sounds fine. The 20 hour straight through thing they said in an earlier interview sounded too short for me, but 30 is fine.

As for KOTOR, it took me around 45 hours, doing probably about 70% of the side quests so the length was probabl about the same for straight through and maybe a little shorter doing everything as it didin't have the buy a house, get married type stuff that Fable does (that I'd never bother with anyway).

Fable golden

Reports from the UK say development of the much-awaited Xbox RPG is complete.
This morning, the Web was abuzz with reports that Fable had gone gold. The reports stemmed from the forums of the game's developer, Lionhead-owned Big Blue Box.

Besides several posts by studio employees that the gold announcement will go out at midnight UK time, the forums also featured a photo allegedly from the Big Blue Box testing center webcam showing a disc marked "Fable Gold!" This afternoon, sources close to the game's development confirmed to GameSpot that Fable has indeed reached gold status, and it will ship on September 14, as scheduled.

Good news...it's been a long wait.

well, ign's review is up... time went back down to 15-20 hours if you just go thru the story! it gets a great score and the reviewer says he loved the game... but, when i read it, the little criticisms seem to me, the kind of stuff that i don't like (probably just me though).

"NPCs are far better used for evil purposes. I hate to say it, but Fable definitely offers greater rewards for evil as opposed to good, though you can certainly beat the game as a good guy (considering that it's quite an easy game to beat)."

argh! the teamxbox review says 10-12 hours for a non-novice player.

From reading the teamxbox review, Fable sounds like a modern update of the PC game, Hero's Quest: So You Want to Be a Hero? (aka Quest for Glory)

Sounds pretty good overall, but a little disappointed by the short length and relative lack of quests. BTW: when did IGN start posting reviews this early? It's over two weeks before it'll be released.

I thought this game was supposed to be 100+ hours long, what happened?
