I played a demo of this game in game crazy. I could not stand the controls. Using the two sticks made my hand hurt and hurt fast. Also shooting with the R buttons did not feel right.
I got to say Xbox has the best FPS controller by miles. However wow this game looked damn good. Also the auto lock-on was way over done but I guess it has to be being as it's so hard to control.

You know, I've heard this arguement for years about console FPS controls and I don't really get either part of it.
1: I'm so used to the PS controller, having used it since early '98 (I imported an early, non-vibrating model from Japan). I really have no problem using it for FPS type games at all. Maybe I have small hands or something (the original Xbox controller was way too massive for me). I like the Controller-S allright, but I really have no problem with the Dual Shock at all.
2: I don't doubt everyone who raves about the superiority of the keyboard and mouse system, but for me it's less intuitive. Let me expand on that: Yes, aiming with the mouse is much easier, no doubt. But I've always hated the keyboard side of it. Moving by pressing the S key is so much less intuitive and natural than just easing forward on the left stick. I'm always feeling seasick with the movements from a keyboard; the joystick just feels so much more natural. Also having random keys mapped to important functions for me is a whole lot harder to keep track of than just pressing an X or shoulder button. I'm alwys having to stop the action to see what button I wanted to use, or get hit while looking down at the keyboard, but maybe that's just me.

I prefer the X-Box type s controller to everything on the market. I really love that thing and for FPS's (well just Halo really) it's perfect. The main reason it feels so good to me is that the x-box shoulder buttons are really triggers. While the shoulder triggers really kill your fingers (anybody who played Capcom vs Marvel should know what I mean) they rock for shooters.
Sorry for the mini thread jack.

So you aren't actually commenting on the thread subject (Killzone - for those of you just joining us), but rather the PS2 in general. That is a thread crap.

When does kill zone come out anyway? I dare anyone to play Halo then kill zone and tell me what controller do you like better for a FPS.
PS. Sometimes I think I'd like to put a Sony joke in my post or something to get josh going. He is pretty damn funny. However that would be wrong and I just get kicked.

I love it when I get blamed for arguing when I merely point out the obvious...
Anyway, anyone seen a review up yet? I know the game isn't due out until November, but I was hoping to see some early reviews of a final build right around now.

Played the demo...It's certainly living up to the hype imo. Only downside is the game is kinda dark (but the best fps graphics on ps2), and the controls are a little too loose (sniping is difficult). But in all, an excellent game. Seems like it won't be a halo killer, but a great experience and worthy of the being one of the great console fps.
The sneaking up melee kills are great as are the enemy designs, weapons (2nd fire!), and atmosphere is great

I got to say I do like the dirty urban look of the game. I just can't stand the PS2 control pad for a FPS. Maybe as I get used to it I will have a easer time with it. I also hope they have more open levels in the game. What I played seemed to be all a small path you followed.
The auto lock on was way over done. I'd move my cross hair like 2 feet from a guy and it would move over real fast and lock onto him. Course the control and things like that are most of the time the last thing to be worked on and fixed up. So I hope they work fix them up.
So if this game has a good story and stuff I'm looking forward to it.
So when does this game come out?
PS. Relax namja I'm just teasing josh a little.

Game comes out Nov 2.
Controls are fine, standard fire / movement. I don't even remember auto-lock, but I haven't tried single player.
Sniping is harder, but its better that way.
No jumping for this game is better. I can't stand those quake style Frogger fests. Instead of jump there is an action button, where it will leap over small walls, pillars, etc.
This game will be more team oriented than most other fps.
They have fixed the biggest problem from the beta, hit detection, so it should be good.
Trust me, this game's awesome, well mutiplayer anyways.
