Mario 128

Any new news on this ? It's supposed to be the definitive Mario game for the GCN. I'm really anticipated.

I haven't heard anything about this in awhile. I imagine that it will be moved over to Revolution (Nintendo's next console) and shown when Revolution is unveiled at the next E3.

Too bad, I could really go for a Mario game that is an actual Mario game and not a spinoff.

I agree. With nothing shown yet, and a new Metroid and Zelda coming to the GC, I imagine they'll save the new mario game to be the killer app at the launch of the next console.

Sucks for us, good idea on their part. The GC had no killer apps at launch which really hurt it. It would have sold much better with a good mario game.

I agree Josh, but it seems that the few true Mario games have been few and far between for Nintendo's next-gen consoles. This might be due to fear of lack of innovation and watering down the franchise.

Or Miyamoto was just sick of working on them and/or to busy with zelda/pikmin etc.

I hope the next Mario game he isn't going to be a sanitation worker with a water pack. That was the pits!

All I know is...I'm repurchasing a GC for Zelda! NOw that's my kinda game! Link's public service is killing goblins!

I think it's better for Nintendo to move the game over to "Revolution". Also the name "Mario Revolution" would be cool. Wouldn't it be great if "Revolution" launched with both a new Mario and Smash Bros. titles!

As for us GC owners, we can still get our Mario fix with upcoming games such as Mario Tennis, Mario Party 6, and Paper Mario.

I'm still eagerly anticipating the release of Mario Tennis. But I haven't heard of anything about that for a while either

I really hope Mario 128 will have the innovative world system like Mario 3 and Mario World had, and those suits, they should do that again, it worked really well.

I had no idea Mario Tennis was coming out. That is great news! Though I wish we could get another proper Mario game on the GCN. Oh well. I want the Revolution to be a success so I'm cool with them saving it (if that is infact the case).

Well I don't want them to water down the franchise either. With mario games you kind of need a brand new concept with each game.

I thought this was supposed to be like Pikmin or something?

Anyway, I personally don't hope they are porting it to the next console. It'd be better if the next Mario game for that system was built from the ground up on that system like Mario for GCN.

I haven't heard any news, but I'd say it looks doubtful that it will be on the Cube, I'd say it will be the launch of Nintendo's "Revolution" system since every Nintendo system has launched w/ a Mario game except for the Cube.

I just hope that they do something that truly is revolutionary. I want to get that feeling like I did when I first played Mario 64. I think the whole 3D adventure thing has been done to death, so here's hoping Miyamoto has something amazing planned; cause Mario Sunshine was one of the most disapointing games IMO.

Mario Sunshine actually started out as an N64 game, and was ported to the GameCube. So, it wouldn't be surprising for them to do the same with Mario 128 moving to the Revolution.

While waiting for Paper Mario 2, Mario vs. Donkey Kong on GBA has been providing my Mario fix. Great retro style, and it's an original title instead of the endless SMB rehashes. It even has some multi-Mario levels sorta like the GameCube tradeshow demo or the Pikmin-like Marios that were hinted to be in Mario 128. Half a dozen little Marios follow you around like Lemmings. They can be guided safely or led to their deaths. It's not really innovative, but it is fun.

I was reading something about VGs the other day, and it made me think that the Revolution needs to come out swinging, both barrels blazing. Including massive online support.

Though personally I'm looking forward to that new sidescrolling Mario on the DS more than another 3D game.

Mario 128 was just an early GC tech demo and was Pikmin like. But that idea ended up getting turned into Pikmin

Miyamoto said he was working on a new Mario game a year or two back, but nothing was ever shown, so they well could have scrapped that and started building it from the ground up for the next system.

Though it's no big deal. There's not going to be a giant graphical leap next gen (nothing like from PSX/N64 to this gen), just better textures more polygons, etc. So building from the ground up or porting over won't make that much difference IMO.

I wholeheartedly disagree. I loved SMS, it is a fantastic game. Clearly designed on the SM64 engine, it adds in a few new cool play mechanics. Level design as always is brilliant and there is plenty of difficulty there for those looking for it. This is one game definitely not given a fair shake.

The best parts of SMS were the mini-boards that took the jet pack away. SMS wasn't a bad game by any stretch, but it didn't feel like Mario at all. I think the game would habe been better served introducing a new character or something.

The only thing that frustrated me about Sunshine was the lack of the Z-Jump from 64. I loved that long jump, and really wish it had survived into Sunshine.
