Sudeki - Anyone interested in this?
I've been seeing the increased coverage of Sudeki in the recent months and I must say it's looking pretty good. I read in one of the mags, the quest is about 20 hours and no unlockable characters as promised, so not much replay value. But they did say the real-time combat was a lot of fun.
This game looks to have killer visuals, and as long as it can hold my attention with a decent storyline and good gameplay (it sounds like it has that already), then I'm there. I want to pre-order, but I'm a little freaked about pulling the trigger before I read any real reviews.
Anyone else interested in this title? Anyone have any hands-on experience from E3 they would like to share?

I've got passing interest in the game so I'll probably pick it up when the price drops a bit or I can find a bargain on it. Don't really have the 50 bones to throw away right now.

I'm keeping an eye on it, but I'll probably pass. 20 hours is short for an RPG and KOTOR is the only non-Japanese developed RPG I've liked and that was more because of the SW story/setting than the gameplay.

Graphics look great but this game has some of the ugliest characters I've ever seen.
I saw a clip about it on G4TechTV and it looked interesting, kind of an action rpg, I'll be keeping a watch on it.

Heh.. yeah, about the characters.. I don't know. It's pathetically obviously they're catering to 13 year old boys. I'd love to see this crap broken. I thought Beyond Good & Evil was an excellent start on a strong female lead character that didn't have her tits hanging out. I mean, check out my thread on Dragon Quest VIII, one poster made like 3 posts on a characters tits. Wow.

The demo on OXM was pretty good. However that pulling rock puzzle turned me off a little. The voice work was pretty good and the fighting system I liked allot. The monster designs in the demo I think sucked dick.
From the demo it was a mixed bag. Don't like the designs of the bad guys or the mean people. However I loved the battle system. Also I can do without push puzzles. I hope the story is good. I want to try the game not sure if it's a buy.

but I meant ugly as in fugly. Really bad character designs, I don't know how they stuck with these designs, they look odd in the game compared to the background and other characters.

Well, the latest EGM did say that while Microsoft did have a final copy of Sudeki for them to review at the time the magazine was about to be publish, they did not give them a review copy. They said they smelled something fishy like Grabbed by the Ghoulies....

IGN gave it a 7.8:

I love RPGs and am a big fan of traditional roleplaying games. Chrono Trigger, any Final Fantasy game, Golden Sun -- these are games that feature a lot of combat, a lot of story, puzzle elements, and good endings. They aren't secret games people don't know about. If you're gonna make an RPG, these are the type of games you play, that you learn from. Sudeki isn't among the elite RPGs. It isn't Baldur's Gate, either, because there's far too little combat mixed with a lot of very slow-paced story elements that don't really go far enough. If you are an RPG fan, get this game anyway. Why? Because you need something to tide you over until the fall, when several more RPGs arrive. You'll play Sudeki to its conclusion (which took me only 17 hours, with no reason to play again) and you'll probably like (but not love) it. It's a snack before the feast.
Sudeki is good, but it's not great, and with big guns like KOTOR II, Fable, Jade Empire on the way, this is one RPG that will likely be forgotten before the year is over. Still, there aren't many Xbox games to play this summer. Get it now and you'll have it beaten well before the arrival of Fable in September.
-- Hilary Goldstein
Ratings:
7.0 Presentation
The storytelling isn't all that strong, though the story itself is interesting. The overall design choices are sometimes questionable, but the world is unique unto itself.
8.0 Graphics
Self-shadowing, a usually solid framerate, and some nice lighting effects. This is certainly the most colorful RPG on Xbox. Great environments.
7.0 Sound
Overall good voice acting with a variety of European accents. Some of the dialogue is a bit weak. A strong score accentuates the more dramatic combat moments.
8.0 Gameplay
The combat system is my favorite among action RPGs, especially once you hit the halfway point. The in-town stuff and "puzzles" aren't so hot.
7.0 Lasting Appeal
Relatively short for an RPG, the enticing replay elements like unlockable characters and a fishing mini-game have been dropped. Reason to play again? None.
7.8 OVERALL:
(out of 10 / not an average)

I don't understand the logic in this review. "Go ahead, waste 50 dollars on a game that is entirely forgettable because hey, you need to play something until the better games come out, right?"

Yeah, I guess if someone was that starved for an rpg, they wouldn't have picked Xbox as their console of choice anyway...
I remember back in the day, before FFVII and rpgs became super popular here in the states, I was so starved for a PS1 rpg that I actually played through Beyond the Beyond...

I played the demo of this game on the OMX disc this past month. It didn't seem bad at all. The graphics were very well done. However I'm glad I ended up going with Tales of Symphonia to get my RPG fix rather than waiting for this. The IGN reviewer said he finished it in 17 hours. That's pretty damn short for a RPG. Maybe I'll get it when it hits $20.

While at Gamestop I saw some tool that had this pre-ordered (He was a tool without the fact that he pre-ordered this), the guy at the counter said he had it pre-ordered also.
For a game with that low of a review, I can't believe people need to reserve a copy.
