NYC - Mod XBox?

Are there any stores in the NYC area that specialize in modding XBOXs? Has anyone had their machine modded? Happy with the results?

for awhile there was a mod chip that you just "plugged in" - don't know if that one is still being sold though.

Had to send mine off. I am happy with being able to backup games to the hard drive. Had a 120gb hard drive installed. There is alot more to it than anyone tells you before you get the mod done. Flashing bios, adding dashboard. Had lots of trouble connecting PC to Xbox.

I installed the Matrix chip on mine (that's the one that doesn't require soldering). It was fairly easy, and installing the required bios/software was a snap with Slayer's Auto Install CD.

Well, I know of a place, but I don't know if it's shunned upon to outright state places that install mods...sorry. Just think in what country does pirate games exist the most, and then add "town" to the end of that, and you will find it in NYC.

Here is a Tutorial from xbox-scene that should help you find what you need.

i got the xcuter 2.3b lite in my xbox and it's solderless.
in xbox-scene a lot of ppl agree that solder chips are better than solderless chip, dont know why; if you are good at soldering and not afraid to fry your xbox, by all mean go for it.

I was thinking about just doing the software mod. That way I don't have to worry about xbox live freaking out as I can just boot the mod when I want to.

Can anybody suggest the easiest no-solder mod for Xbox if my primary (and probably only) use of it will be to install and use old-school emulators (NES, TG16, Genny, etc.)? Also it must be able to turn off so I can use Xbox Live whenever a non-Sports/non-FPS game finally comes out.

I second this motion. I've been wanting to do this for the longest time! In the meantime, to cure my Genesis fix, I'm thinking of getting the Action Replay Max Evo, which allows you to run a Genesis emulator on PS2.

I am using the executer lite no-solder chip as well. It was a little tricky to get the "d0" pin to line-up but, other wise very easy. This chip comes with a separate switch that I mounted on the backside of the xbox. It has an LED that turns on when the chip is enabled. I currently have Mamex, snes, gameboy advance, and genesis emualtors installed.

Edit: Here is a link to the site where I got my chip.

I just wanted to add nothing constructive to this thread by saying i love my modded x-box. I owned a regular one, a friend of mine in Northern Cali had a friend who did it for $150 i just needed to provide a 120gb HD which got a fantastic deal on(free through another friend). I'm sure there's better deal than this, but not being technically inclined this was the best i can do. Anyways, going to school in boring Montana it has been a life saver. Regionless DVD player, emulators, and watching tv shows from Bit Torrent...it's awesome.

what is different between the 2.3b lite, lite + and pro?
how much was shipping for the chip that you ordered from the above?
the kawa X emualutor is awesome, how did you get the gameboy advance roms installed in your xbox; when i try to install it, the file names are too long, did u manually rename each and every long file name to a shorter one?
is there a Dreamcast roms available for the xbox?

Here is another link that shows the differences between the mod chips. I don't remember the shipping cost.

I am using long file names for my gba roms. "Castlevania Circle of The Moon.gba" for example.

I am not sure about Dreamcast roms.

are you playing them off a CD, or are the on the xbox? I had a lot of trouble ftping files over that had really long filenames. It took me a while to figure out why it was happening.

I am playing the games off the HD. I use FlashFXP 2.1 to move the files over to the xbox from my PC.
