Xbox is working pretty poorly. What to do?

My Xbox has latley been questionable on game playing and dvd playback. Some discs wont work and neither will some movies. I dont think that I have the dreaded thompson drive and I've cleaned the drive with an aircan and several lens cleaner discs. Is my Xbox just dying or is there another way I should clean it?

Crack it open and clean the lens if possible.

If you have a launch XBox you may be able to get free repairs on it. Either way, call MS Tech and see what they can do for you.

Try cleaning lense.

Talk with MS.

If those fail, start saving for another. A lot of xboxes have been failing, and if they lay outside warranty its often cheaper to buy a new one then try and fix it.

to open up the xbox; there are 4 torque screws underneath the black sticky pad in each corner of the xbox; there are 2 more torque screws, one is covered by the silver sticker and the other is underneath the serial # sticker; if you remove the serial # sticker, it would void your warranty; total 6 torque screws.

i would call ms cust rep and see if they can fix it for you before open up your xbox since that would void the waranty.

Try a dvd/cd player lens cleaner before opening it perhaps?

Call MS before opening the system. They won't touch it if you opened it.

What drive do you have?

Thomson

Phillips

Samsung

My xbox used to not play some games and dvds and would get disc read errors, but a lot of games still worked. I thought buying one of those cleaning discs that has the little brush would help. After I used it, nothing worked. For some reason it made things worse. Anyways I found directions online about how to take the xbox apart and clean the lens and the little mirror directly. Now everything works flawlessly.
