The hard drive goes in the back of the PS2 where underneathe your Broadband adapter. The HDLoader will format the drive and take care of the rest.

As an added note, I tried using a 160gb drive and it works, but you can only store 136gb worth of games.

The HD Loader manual says the limit on HD size is 120GB. If you use anything larger, you can't access the entire drive.

Exactly. But the nice thing is that Bestbuy and Circuit City, in the past month or so, have rebates on Maxtor 160gb drives for $69 after rebate.
So, you may not get use out of the whole 160gb, but you get the drive for cheaper than you can find a 120gb. AND you get an extra 16gb of useable hdloader storage....4 more games to store isn't so bad.

Since nobody has mentioned it yet I thought I would.

There are a couple of programs out there(hdl_dump and winhiip) that will let you install games that normally couldn't be installed(backups and imports if you don't have a mod chip and dvd9 games)

you hook the hard drive up to your computer, run the program and using your dvd drive on your pc, you can copy the games straight to the hard drive. Then you just plug the hard drive back into the ps2.

You can use any size drive, but the maximum usage you'll get is 136gb. The RPM speed doesn't really matter. I tinkered around with different hard drives and I didn't notice any speed difference between 5400 or 7200 and 2mb cache or 8mb cache.
