Will the HD loader let you put PS1 games on the hard drive. I'm still on the fence on getting the HD loader and if accepts PS1 games then I'm sold.

Nope. You can check the faq on their website, No Ps1 games work.

Well if it can't play imports unless you already CAN play imports, this is useless to me.

HDLoader is an interesting niche product.

Pros:

1. Reduced load times.
2. No disc swapping (less wear and tear on your originals).
3. Nice menu to choose games from.

Cons:

1. Not compatible with all games.
2. Price of hard drive.
3. Price of HDLoader.
4. No additional features (allow you to play imports, cheating, etc).

There's more bad than good in my opinion. Lacking 100% compatibility is it's biggest con, plus why spend $100 on a drive plus the loader when I can just buy more games? For a little less load times? Load times never really bothered me in this generation anyway. Not to mention this exploit makes it easier than ever (however more expensive) to pirate games which is never a good thing (although from what I understand, it will not allow you to install a backup to the hard drive unless you already have a mod-chip installed).

No PS1 games?? That sucks. Some PS1 games could really use an improve in loading times (FF Chronicles & Anthology, anyone?).

Sony's on the product now like white on rice. Go grab one if you want it and you can.

The "compatability" section on the site is kinda vague when it talks about hards drives. Any reccomendations? Best Buy has a WD 120gb for only $69.99 this week, but the HDLoader site says WDs don't work.

Just play it safe and buy a Maxtor. They're all compatible.

I bit the bullet and bought one and a 60GB Maxtor drive as well. Will report back later this week when I have both.

Here's a good site with HD Loader compatibility for those of you that have bought it. Works nicely.

I hope that site continues to be updated as it looks like www.hdloader.com will no longer be any help.

HDLoader is gone, bring on HD Advance!

I'm glad I got my copy. It is the best add on I have ever purchased for any console.

The speed increase alone is worth the price.

Great link! I love how it shows the size of the game...it should prove handy when space is at a premium

So much for the ability to "upgrade" your HDloader when future releases become available. I'll stick with my HDloader until it stops being useful. Looks like ebay doesn't have many for sale anymore either. If anyone is interested, you can still buy hdloaders here for $22 plu shipping.

Anyone bought anything from linker4u.com before? Seems like a good price (I guess this is not the original HD loader as it's so much cheaper than other stores). Even buying an HDD, network adapter, and HD Loader disc in a combo pack seems to be a good price. $125 for all of them...~$25 for adapter, $22 for HDL, so ~$78 for HDD. Hmmm...

There's all this talk about HD Loader, does anyone know anything about Swap Magic?

It seems like a very viable option to HD Loader, though it does have to work in conjunction w/ another physical device.

Not sure exactly what you mean. Check this thread for info on how to use swap magic along with HDloader to install imports on a non-modded PS2.

Personally, I don't see the comparison. Swap Magic lets you play imports and backups without modding your PS2. The whole point of the hdloader (for me at least) is to store as much of my game library on the hard drive so...

1. My games load faster.
2. I can store a number of my game library and leave one disc in the PS2 to play them.

But hey, thats just me.
