Need your thoughs on using Xbox on HD RPTV

Thinking of using the Xbox occassionally on a Rear Projection HD TV. This is a Mistsubishi Diamond that's about 3 years old.

I've heard various things about the dangers of burn in, etc. but it seems like much of that is geared towards non digital TVs (I could be wrong, please correct me if I am).

I'm thinking of letting my nephew use his Xbox on my RPTV occassionally as we play together for a guys night in when he visits. This is occassional and at the most 2 to 4 hour stretches only.

Am I in danger of damaging the TV or is that now more of a myth? Anyone regularly game on a RPTV and have any suggestions, insight, etc.?

Thanks in advance gang!

i thought it was indeed an issue that may be greatly alleviated if you turn down the contrast.

If you have it set up right for movies it should be OK for gaming. Keep brightness and contrast under control. And dont pause the game and go for pizza. I have played on RPTVS for years with zero burn-in. Enjoy!

I don't own one myself, but I would be wary of playing games on it. I also wouldn't compare playing a movie on it , to playing a game on it. You have to remember most games have health bars, and other visual indicators that stay on the screen the whole time your playing which I would imagine, that will eventually cause burn in.

The xbox has a sleep mode which turns down the contrast automatically after a few minutes of no controller activity. Plus, with the contrast settings low you should have no problems. I have played my xbox on my mits for over 3 years and there are no signs of burn in.

As long as you turn the contrast setting on your TV down to a reasonable level (by default, it is in Torch Mode), you should be fine.

I still take a break every hour to hour and a half though, just because I'm paranoid

I have a 57" Hitachi and have had no problems (and I'm talking some 9-10 hour streches, non-stop). I have my contrast down in the low 20's and turn off the TV when it's paused longer than a minute.

Listen to everyone and make sure your contrast is down. Even if you don't use the Xbox on it, you should make sure it's lower for the rest of your viewing. For example - I love how HDTV channels have stationary logos in the corners .

i play xbox on my HDRPTV all the time... I don't even bother turning down the brightness and contrast. No burn-in at all.

I've been using a HDRPTV 55' diamond mitz with my xbox since the start, and no burnin. 2-4 hours gaming at a time.

A little off topic...is it worth an extra $20 to upgrade from an S video to component? thanks.

Yes. Color separation is much better and progressive scan is a must.

If your tv only has one component input, use that for your dvd player and stick with s-video for the xbox. There is an improvement in picture quality when using component video. But, without progressive scan, the improvement may not be that noticable on lower quality sets.
