Anybody find a way to dispose of old PC games

I'm highly disappointed.

I installed Myth: The Fallen Lords tonight. Now, bear in mind, Myth and its sequels were some of my favorite games.

It sucked. Maybe it's because the RTS system has been refined so much over the past few years, but the game just seemed totally archaic.

So I got a grand notion: I'll sell my old pc games on eBay.

The only problem is, old PC games sell for only a buck or two on eBay. Some don't even sell at all. While I'll probably never even play these games again, I'm not sure I can part for something I paid $50 for when I only get $1.00 in return.

Has anybody come up with an inventive way to get rid of these things, or am I just pretty much out of luck here?

I have(actually had) a bunch of old PC games I wanted to get rid of. EB offered me between 25 and 75 cents for them. There was no way I was going to let them rob me like that. I ended up putting them in a box and tossed them a few months later.

You certainly outsmarted yourself on that one.

If EB offered me prices like that, I'd rather throw them away than let EB make a profit off me.

I usually just give my older games or games that i don't play any more to various family members...usually PC games have a really low resale value so better someone i know have something new to play than selling the game for a couple of bux.

I would give them to goodwill if they take them, that reminds me I have a bunch of games I want to get rid of. Full Throttle, Need for Speed, Home Alone, an old Microsoft Sidewinder 3d pro.

If you hold on to them long enough, they might be hard to find and worth more on eBay.

^ But eventually a lot of these games become freeware dont they? I downloaded Grand Theft Auto 1 from Rockstar a few months ago and just downloaded the Spellcasting series, not from a warez site, yesterday.

You can always bundle them on eBay - sometimes the whole is worth more than the parts.

I just threw a bunch of oldies in the trash.

No one will buy them, I don't feel like going to Goodwill to dump them off and I've gotten my $10-50 worth on most of them.

You may be able to donate them to a local charity and write them off as a tax deduction. Schools might also be interested, although probably not in the more violent games.

How about donating them to a local library or school?

Don't throw them away, that's not cool.

Here's what I did. I put about 25 - 30 games into one auction... and ended up selling it for about 20 bucks. Of course, later it turns out I wanted to play some of those games.

EB won't always buy back old PC games. They wouldn't buy my old Wing Commander III for anything. I sure didn't need it since I have the Kilrathi Saga which contains an updated version of WC3.

Post them in the FS/FT subforum. Maybe somebody else has an old game you want.

I use to have tons of PC games around. But now I have less than half dozen. These are some of the ways I got rid of them:

1) Sell them through ebay (if they are worth at least $10 or so)
2) Give to friends (those games I finished already)
3) Donate to library (educational software like encyclopedia)
4) Just toss in the trash can (those that have no value)

Wow... those aren't nearly as "old" as I thought they would be. But they can be picked up for anything between $5-$10 new, so they're still not worth a lot.

I'm sure someone here would be interested in a box-lot of these titles... either in this thread; or move it over to the Exchange forum?

I guess "old" is a relative term; Myth is from 1997, for example.

Ok, I started a thread in the exchange forum.
