Canis Firebrand 05-12-04 07:08 AM

Pretty cool game. I jumped in and created a character last night.

I think I might create a new one, as the class I picked doesn't seem to be working out as well as I'd like. I picked a necromancer/elementalist. heh.

But it was a lot of fun. The graphics and sound were very impressive.

I had a lot of fun.

I had to pick a different name then I wanted, but created a character Canis Firebrand.

I thought I'd give this a try after watching a friend play WoW beta for 4 hours. Warcraft blows it away.

I felt that the warcraft grapics and user interface were much better. You can customize your screen to show whatever information you want to display, so you never have to deal with submenus, and your character is always on the screen. The crafting skills seem extremely rudimentary, and there are only a handful of classes. (can anyone tell the difference between a W/Mo and a Mo/W?) I wish I could comment on how the leveling up compares, or how the PvP works, because I thought the arena was the most fun of all, but I can't.

(I haven't played WoW so I can't comment...but it's good to see a comparison of the two games)

I agree that the submenus were a bit awkward, but not I've seen a lot worse. Bear in mind that GW is still in Alpha, and that the UI is often one of the last things to be finished. Hopefully, Arena.net will allow some customization of the UI (and the HUD for that matter).

Crafting is not the focus of GW, so I agree that if it's something you like to do there's a lot better games for it.

The lack of variety in classes and races is probably the #1 criticism I've seen of Guild Wars. My guess is that they're holding out in the initial release in order to offer them up in the expansion packs.

But the real key seems to be skills. There's only a handful available right now, so it's hard to tell the difference, but depending on the skills one pursues there could be big differences among people who are in the same class. Note that this is all speculation based on what I've read...it hasn't been fully implemented in the E3 build.

I don't think its fair to compare Wow to guild wars.
Wow is an mmorg, but GuildWars is not a true MMORG.
It is more in the line of diablo where u don't pay a monthly fee.

If thats the case, then its even worse imho. I'm not really into it, but I could see how social interaction could make GW overcome its weaknesses. If its just meant to be a multiplayer hack & slash, then its just weak.
