Why was State of Emergency so loathed?
I was bored last night, so I decided I'd pop in State of Emergency, and just have some fun dinking around in it. I hadn't remembered, but I acutally enjoy this game. Sure it's shallow, and somewhat repetetive, but they were going for an arcadey feel, and they definitely achieved that.
Is the only reason people hated it so much is because everyone was expecting it to be another Grand Theft Auto? Just because it was from the distributor doesn't mean it will be the same game. If that is the case then I am dissapointed that Freecell and Halo don't play in a similar fashion.

Mainly due to the hype and the less than stellar game play. People whoe bought this thing for $50 felt completely ripped off. I bought it for $5 used at BB knowing full well about the hype and its shortcomings, and was not as disappointed.

It's a victim of Rockstar's success with GTA. People expected it to be just a good with the same great gameplay. But it falls way way short. Coming from anyone else, it would've been just a bad game. But coming from Rockstar, it was crap.
And it's not like much could've been done to make it better. At it's heart it's a very simple arcade beat-em-up that can only be played for short(SHORT) periods of time. When you sit down and spend an hour with it, the hatred for it builds and builds.

Is fun to get together with friends an go on a killing spree for a little while, but it is sallow even in this form. I am glad I only paid $20 on an impulse.

Of course, if it didn't have the Rockstar name on it, it would have sold about 5 copies. Thats the rub with crappy games with big names behind it, if it blows, everybody will know it blows.
I don't care if Rockstar made the game or not, they put the name on there to sell games, which I am sure it did. And you have to pay the consequences of having that associated with your name as well.
Did anyone see that Rockstar's CEO resigned a few weeks ago?
