Sony has stated that they were not planning on dropping their price to compete with the Xbox. With that being said, I'd expect it sometime midsummer or later.

At my store, we have a poster for PS2 a new low price. It doesn't say what the price is, we got it when the Xbox dropped. So we'll see what happens, I'd say E3.

I'm thinking we might see a price drop sometime this month.

By E3 at the latest. Sony always says "we're not dropping the price" right up untill they do. They want to squeeze a few more sales out at $179.

Exactly. It won't stay $179 for long, with the X-box drop. I'd say around E3 as well.

In the middle of May. So it looks like you really don't have a choice here.

I spoke to my Sony Rep today.

Sony has no plans to drop the price of the PS2 as they don't see Xbox as competition. The reason is because Gamecube outsold Xbox last year, making Xbox in 3rd place. Don't expect a price anytime before Christmas.

I hope they drop it to around $129, I'd like to pick up a new one since my current one has the accursed "blue disk" problem.

And that was because........

Price Drop. Lower prices = increased sales. Once Sony sees the huge jump in Xbox sales, they'll lower the price. They can't afford not to.
