I previously equipped all the stuff I had in my inventory and I didn't notice weapon.

I had also accidentally cast a spell on myself and that caused me to learn the spell.

I did manage to get Signet cast on me before I left town. I had heard about it a few places and made sure I found that guy.

Even if I don't get into FFXI I'm still happy I bought it and the HD. I missed my PS2 and hopefully with this add on and the things planned for it I will be drawn to more PS2 titles. I missed out on a lot of good PS2 games in the past year or so because I was too into my XBOX.

What job did you choose?

I'm an Elvaan Black Mage located in San D'Oria. I'm going to read the manual a bit more and look around a few forums to see if I can't get some info and get moving. I don't want to be Lvl. 1 forever.

Black Mage is hard to start and even harder as Elvaan because they have low MP.
You should start with an onion staff.
If not you can buy a weapons at the Auction House for like 50-150.
Look for a onion ward or staff.
They are the starting weapons.
The Mage starts with stone and you can cast stone on enemies.
Also you can just use your hands to fight, you dont need a weapon.
Fight the rabbits right outside the gate.
