Good coop game for the PC?

The wife is out of town, so I figure I'll catch up on some much needed video game playing with a buddy. Can anyone recommend a good coop game for the PC? Just needs to support 2 people on a LAN. We're both Starcraft freaks (I don't think any game since has come close to SC in terms of coop play) and have played most of the RTS games out there- C&C, Warcraft, etc. We also got into Ghost Recon and Rainbow 6, but Battlefield 1942 didn't do much for me. Is Battlefield: Vietnam any better?

Serious Sam 1 and 2 are cheap and good coop games imo.

You might want to try Rise of Nations. You can play as allies, then when you defect all the computer players bomb the heck out of each other

We ended up picking up Command & Conquer: Generals since RTS games are our favorite. It's not a bad game at all, excellent graphics and gameplay.

I'm adding to this thread for posterity.

Line of Sight: Vietnam
Deadly Dozen: Pacific Theater

Both of the above FPS games are unusual on the PC because they feature full co-op through the regular STORY game. i.e., the single player campaign but with 2 players. This is different from Battlefield 1942 or BF Vietnam since the latter games are really just team deathmatching without much story or narrative.

The above are also cool because they're budget titles but have quality graphics and game design.

Also:

Rune (using official co-op mod on developer's webpage)
Aliens vs Predator 2 (using X-coop mod)
Half-Life (using Sven-coop mod)
Codename: Outbreak
System Shock 2
Will Rock

I'll second Serious Sam/2E and Diablo/II...playing these thru on the high difficulty levels with friends is a blast.

Got to spend some more time playing co-op Line of Sight: Vietnam. Man, for a budget title, this is extremely polished! The graphics engine is pretty damn good and succeeds in creating the illusion of a huge, lushly vegetated environment. Good sound, some nice graphical details, and wicked difficulty level.

Also, this is one of the few games I've seen where they properly implemented the "hiding in the grass" concept. If you move slowly and stay low in the tall grass, then the enemy can't see you. If you make noise and are standing, then they can slowly zero in on you. Once they have a bead on you, then crouching doesn't turn you 'invisible' again. Nicely done.

Anyway, co-op works beautifully and runs very, very well. You can play any of the missions and they work well in 2 player. I think you can play co-op with even more players if you want.

Considering you can get this game for under $10 on Amazon or Ebay, I think it's an amazing value.

(note: compared to Vietcong, I'd say LOS:Vietnam has better graphics, but Vietcong has more of an inventive, big budget feel to the missions. LOS:Vietnam is more low key.)
