Anyone here play Anarchy Online?

I'm looking into getting into some community gaming, and the one MMORPG that looks most appealing to me is Anarchy Online.

Anyone here who has played it or is currently playing it have any comments on the game, like anything I should be aware of before I take the plunge?

EB has Shadowlands for $10 and the 90 day pre-paid card for $40. With my GameSpot discount that's $45 for four months of gameplay (Shadowlands comes with a 30 day trial period). Is it worth it?

Can't speak for those 3 but I am currently playing Final Fantasy XI and imo the graphics are amazing for an mmorpg and i'm having a blast with the depth of gameplay on it. It comes complete with cutscenes and boss battles like a regular final fantasy game. The world is going to take forever to cover as it's so huge. I would recommend ff XI. I know you didn't ask for another recommendation but i had to throw my 2 erm 1 and a half cents in

Never actually played AO, but heard some things about the level progression that pushed me away from it and towards Dark Age of Camelot (which had a lot of problems too). I'm not sure about the end-game content, but what I was told was that there was not much point to level progression later on because there wasn't much difference between a mid-level character and a high level one.

If it's your first time in MMORPGs, then my advice is to stay the hell away from any boards discussing about them. There are a lot of people with 'class envy' and even if everything was perfectly balanced, they would still be calling for nerfs that favor the choices they had made. And every MMORPG that's at least 6 months old has all the 'uber' spots all mapped out and everything has been analyzed to death. Staying away from that kind of stuff can keep the game feeling fresh, even if your toon isn't the best that he can be.

AO would not be the best game to start out that genre.

I played Asheron's Call 1 for about 18 months
Then AO for a couple of months
Then DAOC for about a year
then Asheron's Call 2 for about a year
Back to Asheron's Call 1 for about 4 months

Now I am in limbo. I guess I'll wait for World of Warcraft.

And wait

and wait

etc.

It looks like Asheron's Call was your fav. What didn't you like about AO? Also, I'm more interested in a sci-fi setting, which is why I didn't really consider the others - not much of a medieval/D&D fan.

I guess AO just had too many options for me.

Hey jrutz, I say give it a shot (45$ for 4 months is enough for you to decide if you like it or not).

Yes I tried AO about a year ago for 30 days. The sci-fi setting was cool, the different factions also. The newbie zones were a lot of fun; lots of people to interact with and kind high-level people willing to take time to answer your questions (and sometimes give you stuff ... But NEVER beg hehe, gives ya a bad rep).

In some zones though, I was totally alone and didn't quite feel like I was in a MMORPG...

So I went back to Everquest (had been playing for 2 years) and quit that shortly after too; felt more like a job than a game hehe.

Anyway, give it a shot you got nothing to lose!

Cheers!

I have been playing Anarchy Online for almost 2 years now,and I still love it to this day.
It was the first MMORPG i ever tried, and i disagree that it is not a good choice for your first MMO.
I am not into Fantasy games which is why i chose Anarchy Online over all the other choices.

BTW:Check you local Best Buy if you have one there, you can pick up Shadowlands there for $5 if they have any in stock.
And choose Atlantean server, since there are more people on it.

Hey Max - thanks for the comments. I think I was going to get this game anyway - I was probably just waiting for someone to tell me what I wanted to hear.

But what iced it is the tip on Best Buy - mine had PLENTY of Shadowlands in stock and for only $4.99. Now I'll get the pre-paid card and just wait until I have months and months of nothing to do before I start it up...

Thanks!

Jeremy
