Ok, few questions about equipment....

I've been out of the video game realm for several years. I still read up on industry news and such from time to time, but I don't play anymore.

Anyway, my parents just built a cabin with a disgustingly lavish home theater. Were talking like 8' x 10' video screen, projector, blah blah blah.

My dad wants to get a game system to hook up. The caveat is he wants it wireless because all the gear will be a small closet.

I know the Cube has the Wavebirds that are really nice. Are there any comparable Xbox or PS2 wireless controllers?

I think he's leaning towards the PS2 simply due to the abundance of games.

It's all getting installed next weekend, so I'll be sure to take digital pics and post them here when it's finished.

Well lah-de-dah!

flashburn posted some good reviews for PS2 and X-Box wireless controllers in this thread.

I purchased one for my PS2 (Fountech Airstyle) and while the feel is pretty close to a standard dual shock, the response problems mentioned in the thread have plagued me too. Usually not a big deal, but it can be a little disarming when you realise you're not in complete control of the game at all times.

Nothing beats the Wavebird so far, but like you say, the PS2 has such a big library (and I feel, more appealing) that I'd hate to be stuck with just my Gamecube...even if it does have the best wireless controller...

Yeah, those XBox and PS2 wireless controllers I got are pretty good. But, having said that, I won't ever use them with a racing game, atleast not from a decent distance away. They responsiveness is fine 99% of the time, but the one split second it screws up and there goes your car.

I remember seeing that thread, cheapskate. I'll have to read it a bit more closely. Thanks for the heads up.

As for the HT. It is sort of weird. My dad likes movies, but he's not a huge fan. I think the HT is more of "I have the money, why not" type of thing. But, I'm not going to complain since I'll be greatly benefitting from it.

i'd definitely get wireless xbox controllers and live w/ their little foibles. the one that flashburn recommended or the pelican eclipse.

i'd also get a cable extension and use wired controllers as well... only problem is w/ steel battalions. you need it wired for that.

Ok. I have suggested having multiple systems (since he is paying for it). The Cube was always the 1st system that came to my mind because of the Wavebirds. I'd love to play Mario Kart on that.

The wavebird is definitely the best wireless controller. But for a library, the PS2 has the best. I suggest getting both systems

I use a Hip Gear wireless remote for the XBOX. While it requires you to push the buttons a little harder than normal it's pretty decent and the price is nice($40). Not sure how responsive it is on racing games.

With a screen that big, you NEED to get Steel Battalion! That would be the most incredible experience ever.

I don't think I could justify getting my dad to buy the game since I'd have to get the controller with it.

Like I said, I'll post pics and maybe video after next weekend. Maybe some requests for some PS2 games that would look phenomenal on it?

This kind of setup begs to have F-Zero GX played on it. I can't even imagine how sweet that would be .

Depending on the type of game you want to play:

Metal Gear Solid 2
Kingdom Hearts
Jak II
Ratchet and Clank 2
Devil May Cry
SOCOM II
ICO
Silent Hill 3

And ofcourse other beautiful games outside that genre:

GT3
Final Fantasy X
SSX3
Amplitude
