Hell, some people even complained that they included too many features and that future consoles should just play games and nothing else. Well, thankfully there are companies that make such devices already for them, but for someone like me, I was happy that there was a company ballsy enough to produce a console that did more than just play games. Now it seems like instead of including more stuff they are taking stuff away.
I think the problem many people have is that you pay for those extra features, and many just want their machines to play games. Luckily Microsoft is in a very competitive market so they are forced to lower their price to a point where they are losing money on each console. Microsoft is starting to realize the mistake of overdesigning their console IMO. The only reason it was underpriced was due to competition.

I mean, my car has A/C, but I never use it. I would never complain that my car came with A/C though. I never use the airbags either. I don't use the seatbelts for that matter. I don't listen to the radio either (I play CDs though) so let's get rid of the radio from cars as well. Boy, this rant is going nowhere. Sorry.
[Response to Trigger's rant with my own] Actually those options (AC, seat belt, radio) are more analogous to four conroller ports, controller included with system, rumble, etc. They have been standard on cars for a while just as many features have been standard on consoles. I think a better comparison to XBOX's extra features would be if cars included DVD navigation but then built it into the cars price. Many people would go to another car manufacturer to get a cheaper price for just a car and not a car with extra features. [/Response to Trigger's rant with my own]

Exactly. I don't want to pay more for features that I either already have in vastly superior stand alone components, or simply have no use for.

I don't think that was really a problem this generation as DVD playback doesn't add much cost (maybe the $20 licensing fee, but MS got around that by putting that cost in a remote that was required to play movies) and the HD is good for saving sports games so it has a gaming purpose. So I see Trigger's point, at least for the X-box anyway.

But I'd never by one of these rumored set top boxes that had Tivo, CD/DVD burners etc for the reasons above.
