XBOX LIVE connection speed
Hey everyone, I just switched over to cable connect for my xbox. Now when I test my connection speed on my computer it says about 1.5mb down and 767 upload. So I'm thinking wow that's pretty sweet to host games on xbox. *DING* WRONG!
Oddly when I checked my xbox connection (dashboard--->network setting--->connect--->let it check your connection then hit the Y button you get a special menu which tells you your latency, packets lost and Download/Upload.) My xbox numbers are as followed: UL: 165kb DL: 9765kb L: 114ms P: 20/20 What concerns me is that my upload is drastically lower that it should be. It's always as if my xbox is a huge bottle neck. My question is what is causing this big difference in upload? |
How's your X-Box connected? Ethernet cable or wireless connection?
|
It's an Ethernet cable.
|
I have the toshiba PCX2600 cable modem connected directly into my xbox.
|
Pay no mind to the rating on the xbox it's never right. Mine is way off too you will be licky to find someone who had the xbox got the speed right.
|
Well the PCX2600 just sucks! I switched over to the PCX2200 and it works great! Hosting 16!

oops
I switched to the PCX2200. Sorry about that. |
I too believe the speeds my XBOX reads to be WAY off. My numbers are always really low and I've never had a problem that I can see and I've never been told I'm lagging. I believe that if you test you speed with your computer and it is good that way....then you should have no problems on LIVE.

Wow, so wireless was better?

Originally posted by jrutz For me, yes. It might have something to do with the ethernet cable I was using. It was a 25 foot cable that I would keep coiled up when not using. So it might have been something to do with the length, or maybe interference or a problem with coiling up the cable.
