We beat it this weekend--less than 12 hours of gameplay on the save file. Did all the side-quests we found [except for the necro's.] I actually had like 55 skill points left to spend, but there was nothing I wanted to spend them on.
And the ending--good LORD that was even more anticlimactic than the first one's ending.
I'm of mixed opinion on the sharing of gold. Too often one person would spend a bunch of money while the other had their eye on a certain weapon/armor, then not be able to buy it. I would like separate gold counts, but the ability to drop/give gold. Or like on Diablo II, I think--gold you pick up is yours, but gold from stuff you sell is split automatically.

We're considering RoE: Champions of Norrath, but again, I don't want to spend fifty bucks for ten hours. Does anyone have an approximate timeframe for CoN? or at least a comment on replay value? [Replay value on both BGA's for us is very low.]

DT - Thats exactly why I shyed away from this release. Ive heard CoN has more replay value because its online enabled. If you've got a high speed connection, this might be a good choice. If you liked BG then you will definately like CoN.

well, i've been breezing thru this game as a necro until i got to the green slimes in the warhammer dungeon (Act II). They kill my skellie with 1-2 hits and kill me with just 3-4 hits. How do i get pass them as a necro? I can blast them with fire, but they usually wind up killing me b4 i can kill them.

I do have broadband, and the network adapter, but haven't gone online yet [need to buy about a 30 foot network cable before doing so.] So I don't know how much of a draw that'll be. I never really got into online gaming; the most time I played online was the first Diablo, and I only played with my wife [we were in two different states at the time, and used that to play and to chat, rather than rack up long distance phone charges.]

Re: D2 gold sharing--hmm...I had forgotten the details. But once you get the money, it's yours, right? unlike DA 2, where there's just one big bag of money you share, which I guess is my main issue.

Those green slimes did suck, I recall we did have some trouble with them. Unfortunately, I can't recall what we did about them, unless the Monk just went up and whacked 'em.

I had a real difficult time against the green slime also. Up until that point I did not have flame arrow. So I struggled until I leveled up, and put all my points into that. Then I would just sit from far away (since the green slime move so slow) and blast them. It wasn't the quickest method possible, but it was the safest.

As to the person who didn't do the necromancer side quests...
Spoiler:
You really missed alot. Besides all of the back story on the character you missed a complete dungeon and 4 different skills. You gain 'shadow skills', which include a GREAT pet, and this 'shadow spray' type of spell that does an insane amount of damage.

I think they just need a 'shopping cart'. As you pick things to buy, it shows you how much you've added to your cart. Once you're happy with it, hit a button and everything is bought. As it is now, you just start buying stuff and realize that you've screwed your co-op teammate over after it's too late.

Did anyone even buy that much stuff? I mean, at the beginning I would spend most of my money at the shop. But later in the game I was usually only buying some health potions and a ton of gems for the workshop. If you are just buying gems it shouldn't be that difficult to ration out money to each person....

To continue the skeleton's vitality debate, mine dies all the time too. Even on the first few missions with just a few bugs ganging up on him. Maybe it's because I'm on the hard difficulty setting?

Just wait until you get the
Spoiler:
'shadow spirit', he is very, very strong. (Soloed everything at the Elemental planes himself..if needed).
I have also found out that your pet indeed levels with you.

All, don't make the same mistake I made yesterday. I was playing solo w/ the Cleric on hard difficulty, and was having a ton of fun. Somewhat challenging, but not too hard. I got greedy and wanted to see what a high powered created weapon would do, so I used the drop/reload character 'cheat' to get a bunch of gold/runestones. I created a sweet weapon, cost like 125k plus 48 gems, plus some good armor. But then it became too easy. I was taking out every creature by just standing and hacking, no strategy at all, and hardly ever took damage.

So I got bored and restarted as a necro. Its a lot more fun when you can actually die.

Although I am disappointed in the difficulty of this game. It's way too easy, even on 'hard'. I rarely have to use health potions, and rarely die. Maybe I'm just getting really good at this type of game, having spent weeks on the first BG: DA and D&D: Heroes.

Still, a ton of fun, and well worth the money. Not to ramble on, but I have actually never played Diablo. I imagine from the comments that it is very similar to these games and that I would enjoy it. Is the single player experience worthwhile in Diablo 1 and 2?

Only play single player Diablo to learn the game and functions, multiplayer is where this game excells. I started playing D1 solo, then went to Bnet, and I have never played D2 solo, only on Bnet.

The gold sharing is split evenly among team members, even selling items is split, but once it is in your inventory, it is yours alone. Too bad BG2 has a flawed sharing system.

Just started this game about a week ago and headed into Chapter 2 and about 7 hours in. This game is really fun but is super easy playing on Normal. Looking forward to playing the rest of the way through.

Beat the game in about 14 hours and did all of the side quests. Didn't really have any problem save the last couple bosses but all in all, I enjoyed the game. The ending was weak but sets up another sequel possibly.

Hopefully this time they'll let you port the characters over from one/both of the previous versions.

I highly doubt we'll see another installment of this game considering what has become of it's publisher, Interplay.

It's been a decently strong license though, so a company such as Atari may scoop it up and add it to their other DnD licenses and keep the series going.

I enjoyed both games for what they were, moreso than the Everquest versions (Probably because I am a DnD fan). Both got fairly easy at the end though when my skills were higher up. I used the archer in one with hail of arrows and electric arrows, which decimated anything in its path. And in two, I used the Necro with his side quest abilities, which were quite strong. I've also enjoyed mutliplayer with my wife.

But, I'd still love another installment. I really enjoy a decent action/action-RPG game like these that aren't too long and can be played in short bursts or long stretches. They are great filler games to play while engaging in a long game or inbetween long games.

I'd love to see more in-depth stories, more side quests, more characters, more skills, etc., without it becoming a full-blown RPG. I think a huge variety of options and ways to play would just make the game that much more enjoyable. The second title took a good step with character specific side quests, but things like that need to be sprinkled throughout the whole game.
