Hi, I probably already know the answer to this but I'll ask anyway. I bought my gamecube pretty soon after launch and I noticed recently that it will refuse to read any disc I put in the system, I've tried everything i can think of to get it to read the discs, but it simply will say "no disc." I had this occur a few months before also, but it would finally read the disc after five or six attempts. Sounds like a laser problem to me. The thing is, I didn't even play my gamecube that much...maybe a total of 100 hours or so since I bought it. Since the system is relatively inexpensive nowadays, do you guys think I should just buy a new one or try to take it to a repair center. I've heard of stories before where people had system problems beyond warranty expiration, and yet the company fixed the system for free, but I can' t remember whether that was nintendo or sony. Advice? Thanks

is there any special way to clean it, e.g. do I have to buy one of those special lens cleaning kits??

James, ive cleaned PS2 lens on dozens of systems and that usually fixes them, ive never had to fix a gamecube (since they don't screw up 91 days after buying it). I would assume try doing the same. Just take a Q-TIp, and dap some Alcohol on it, and rub the lens for 30 seconds...that should work.

BTW, Nintendo charges $70 to repair Cubes. EB will trade in your broken cube for around $30...so your better off just getting a new one...

I've also read that people that have pets that have opened up their system (i.e. any of them), and found tons of pet hair/dander. If no one will fix it for free, you can always open it yourself to clean it out.

The cannot read disc error happened to me too. I opened it up to try to fix it myself, but now luck. Unfortunately I had to get a new GameCube. You may have to get a new one as well.
