Xbox problem

I recently bought an Xbox that had a serial # ending in 6 but it wasnt the Samsung drive. Anyone else have this problem?

It has froze a couple times on me and one of the main reasons I bought it was to play cd-rs. Is there any other way to tell if another system has the new drive?
