I just beat Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (PS2 version)

I really liked it. Though was a bit upset that I beat it under ten hours. Still, it was fun while it lasted.

I unlocked Prince of Persia 1 but found online that the method I used should have unlocked Prince of Persia 2 and merely beating the game should have unlocked the former. Is this a glitch or did I do something wrong? Also, it doesn't prompt me to save after the end credits so I don't get 100% in my progress (and everytime I load the 98% file all I get is the super easy final fight).

Still, I really enjoyed it and I think I'll play it all over again.

XBOX Version

I just completed the XBOX version. What a great game....it acutally gets my vote for game of the year. Love every minute of it. Did you really beat it in 10 hours? My must be a pretty good game player to do that, or do you mean, that the save game file said 10 hours....if so, that is just the time spent during game play, and it does not count having to do levels over, dying, etc. My save game file was under 10 hours, but I know I enjoyed this game for at least 20 or more.

Really immersive fun game that makes you remember why we all love video games in the first place. If you haven't played this, you owe it to yourself to pick it up. Loved it.

No, I was reffering to the cumulative time (by the save file reckoning). I'm sure I played the game much longer since for kicks I would replay the game from the beginning to breeze straight through to where I was currently in my save file. I even used the panoramic camera angle for "drammatic effect".

I read at gamefaqs that the trick I used to unlock PoP1 is where you would have unlocked PoP2 in the X-Box version and that you only have to beat the game once on the X-Box to unlock PoP1.

Seems you get both the classic games and a making of video whereas PS2 owners like myself only get PoP1.

Well, I don't feel terrible merely because the game itself was such a fun ride. The story was also pretty good but not overbearing. It was obvious the writters knew the story was just there to support the gameplay and not the other way around.

But, storywise, there's something that troubles me.
Spoiler:
Farah reffers to the Prince's tale as ridiculous but, considering she's the one who would have taught the Prince how to use the Dagger of Time and knew what he had to do to undo what he had done, you'd assume she'd realize his story was true before he said that final word. Unless, she always though the abilities of the Dagger and the Hourglass were just nonesense until she sees the Hourglass opened and realizes all she was taught is true and passes her knowledge on to the Prince. Still, even reasoning it this way leaves it as a plot hole because when the Vizier uses sorcerous powers in her prescence (after the Prince concludes his tale) she should know all she was told was true. I just have a problem with her incredulity at the end.

Can't wait for the sequel! I wonder if they'll keep this same prince or they'll switch back to the Prince of the first two games (for nostaligia's sake).

PoP 1 and 2 are included in the xbox version? Hmmm. And, it's only $34.99 at circuit city right now....

Yeah but I should warn you that apparently the PS2 and X-Box versions use the same emulator (for PoP1 at least) for the classic games and it's not that hot. The game runs at 50%-70% of the speed it plays on PC so it feels kinda sluggish. Just FYI.

But for $34.99, you should buy it just for the new game alone.

Oh and for PS2 owners, I bought the game at KB for $39.99 cos they have it one sale. What's funny though is that I walk to game section and I see this big red sign on the Ps2 rack announcing the sale. I go up to the counter and ask if the they still have Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time for PS2 and if that price was still available and the employee din't know of the sale nor did she know what game I was talking about.

According to Gamefaqs, PoP2 is unlocked by breaking down a door behind a save point at some point in the mid-game. There's a specific action you have to complete in order for the game to be unlocked when you beat the game.

edit -- apparently PoP2 is ONLY on the xbox version, maybe the GC version as well, but definitely not the PS2 version.

Yeah, I found out when I went back to gamefaqs. Oh well... Anyhoo, I started playing the game again and in about two hours time (not counting the 1:47 that the memory file states but rather the actual time I've spent playing it) I'm at 30-something% of the game. I just went back to the room where you unlock PoP1 and just saved there. The game is just as much fun the second time around.

I beat the game in under eight hours, but I loved almost every minute of it. The fights were tedious most of the time but everything else was great. When the developers talked about how much they love ICO I never thought it would be so much like it. ICO is one of my favorite games of this generation so I of course loved that PoP borrowed a lot from it. And for those that called ICO short but PoP long enough (like IGN), what were you guys smoking? It took me two hours longer to beat ICO the first time. Although I suppose that I'm better at acrobatics and fighting than I am at puzzle solving, so that could explain why I breezed through PoP.

Fantastic game! I'd rate it near perfect except for the fact that it is way too short. I really could have just rented it.

I'm not sure if it is partly because you can just "redo" mistakes with time control that makes it seem shorter or if it just needs more levels. I know that they cut out stuff at the end to make it in time for Xmas. There were suppposed to be tigers that you could fight in the zoo levels. The XBOX "behind the scenes" stuff shows models and animations for tiger/Sand Creatures.

Darn. I would have loved to see that. But there's hope for a sequel, I suppose.

Just beat it again. This time under 6 hours. And, as before, I loved every minute of it.

But this time I experienced my first glitch. In the save point at the hall of learning. I walked up to it, saw the vision and saved my game but when it went back to the game it gave me a game over message. I hit retry and immediately it said game over. I kept this up a few times until I noticed that Farah kept jumping into the pit of spikes once the game started up. What an idiot! I had to head to the main menu and load my save file. Thankfully, she didn't do that ever again. Oh and for some strange reason I got lost in the part with the adders and platforms just before you reach the underground resevoir. The first time I breezed through that no problem but this time around I was totally lost in the last part and ended up finding my way back to the bridge every time. I have no idea what was going on with me at that point.

Anyhoo, I may as well play PoP1 and see how well I do there.

Since I liked this game so much (just beat it again, this time under five hours), do you suppose I'll enjoy Beyond Good & Evil? Or is that a bad comparison?

Sorry. I wish I could help you but I have no intention of getting rid of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time any time soon. I just want to know if Beyond Good & Evil would be right up my alley. (I never rented POPTSOT before purchasing it because I never found it available to rent anywhere I'd go and I think I may have to do the same with BG&E but am afraid lightning won't strike twice.)

I finally got around to renting the XBOX version last night. It's a fun game but the soft graphics and crazy camera can make it tough to see ledges and ropes at times.

The fighting is the only part I don't really care for. Ever so often you just get rushed by wave after wave of baddies. Once I slow time I do better but I'm always afraid of running out of sand.

The graphics and controls on this sucker are amazing. It had been some time since I played the demo and I forgot what a great job they had done with this game. I don't think I'll beat it while I have it but you never know. I just stopped after a looong time of playing because I just can't get my timing right on one move. Maybe later on I'll feel refreshed and I'll take another stab at it.

Totally different type of game, but trust me play BG&E. I enjoyed pop a lot, bg&e a lot more. Think of bg&e as a cross between zelda & jak & daxter.

btw, that princess is hot!

I have yet to play Prince of Persia, although it is at the top of my list of games I want to play. I just can't bring myself to spend $50 on a game when so many games are waiting to be played for 10-15. Anyways I highly reccomend Beyond Good and Evil, although I am not sure how it compares to Prince of Persia. For $20, ($15 with gamers gift card at best buy) Beyond Good and Evil is a steal.

Here is what I wrote in a previous post about the game.

I started playing this game for a few minutes just to try it out and just got sucked in. One minute your fighting, the next your taking pictures, then your driving a hovercaft, soon the story takes off. Great puzzle solving IMO, and the personality/puzzles remind of games like Full Throttle. I liked the use of another character to help you solve puzzles and the story was seemlessly (ie no finish a level get a cgi cutscene ala final fantasy 7) tied into a relatively open ended game. I am very impressed, even though it is kinda short. Seems like the developers got kinda rushed as they started giving 5 pearls for certain things, but maybe short is good because it doesn't have a chance to get tedious or drawn out.

Shortly after I last abandoned this thread, I had finally purchased BG&E at EB for $20 and have had a great timeplaying this game. Taking pictures was fun, and finding ways around my enemies (though frustrating at first) has really kept this game fun and challenging. Right now I'm trying to earn enough pearls to get that engine that makes the Beluga capable of space travel. I already got the Black Isle Sumit pearls andam now invading all those Alpha Section HQ's I found in the city. Just a few more pearls 'til the moon base mission.
