What's the trade in value of a GBA?

Just asking... looking to get a GBASP instead.

(I picked it up for $50 two years ago during the Overstock deal... so I don't stand to lose much.

Ouch... maybe I'll just keep it and get another one.

EB says if you trade in your regular GBA and any two GBA games, you get the SP for $49.99.

I asked, because I have two old GBA systems, and they said there are no exclusions on the games! I recommend finding the crappiest cheapest games possible and taking advantage of this deal.

Otherwise they give $30 for the system alone.

Yes, but the cheapest GBA games are $10. So the value of the GBA still comes out to $30.

How about if you've installed an afterburner?

Just keep it then. The only advantage to the SP IMO is the light. I find the original to be way more comfortable.

That's not true. EB and Gamestop have some really crappy old games (No Rules: Get Phat, etc.) priced between $5.99 and $7.99 and often run buy-2-get-1-free sales. During the Black Friday promotion I was able to get 3 GBA games at Gamestop for $12 and trade them in at EB for $30 credit.

Iridion is $3.99 and most stores usually have multiple titles. So you could buy 2 Iridion's for $8 and trade them in for $20 for a net of $12 and do it on the same transaction so you don't have to pay tax!

So that adds up to about $42 off of the SP, which will end up only costing you about $57.99 plus sales tax. Not bad since you only payed about that much for it two years ago.

BTW, aparft from the light (afterburner on the GBA), I'm *way* for the SP because of the flip design (protects the screen) and portability. I can slip the folded SP into any pocket--pants, jacket, etc.--and be good to go. I could *never* do that with the original GBA. (Needed to protect the screen, and usually did so with a bulky light attachment.) Also, the no-hassle rechargeable Li battery in the SP lasts much longer than regular GBA batteries (esp. with a light). And regular AA rechargeables have horrible memory & decay problems. A fully-charged unused SP will be fully charged weeks later.

Oh yeah--I traded my GBA at EB towards an SP last month. Used their Black Friday special--GBA + 3 crap games gave me $70 credit and a $30 2nd SP (which I actually use!).

Argh the irony...my GBA's screen is broken and if I take it to the Nintendo repair shop its $20 to fix...guess I'm buying a used one.

Maybe an SP this time.

Replacement screens are only $3.95 at the online Nintendo store . And it comes with a tool to remove and replace it.

But SP's are worth it IMO.

Thank god it went down...in that case I might give it away and still buy an SP, Nintendo still irks me though but until someone else good comes into the handheld arena it's all Nintendo.

There's even going to be a new limited SP coming in Feb. It's a platinum/onyx combo (kinda like the Boktai SP).
