Manhunt comments
I just played this game and man is it violent.
|
Haha, any other comments beside the obvious?
|
I got this game called Madden 2004. Man, that guy sure likes that football game!
|
I enjoyed Manhunt for about an hour or so. After that the stealth kills novelty wore off quickly.

I think its an awesome game. Alot of people are ignoring it because they think that the extreme violence is soley there to lure people into buying it, which could be true, but nonetheless, its a very well crafted game. The gameplay is spot on IMO and those executions never get old!
Also, i played the game using the USB headset and it made for a very cool gaming experience. The director speaks to you directly through the headset and you can also use it to lure and distract enemies and what not. I remember there was this one time where i was hiding in the shadows from one of these gang member dudes and he was patroling the area when he said something to the affect of "Man, i wish i would've brought a book to read...wait, what am i saying, i wish i could read!" I let out a chuckle and he heard me and started to chase me, it was great! |

How does this game compare, if at all, to the stealth components of Splinter Cell?
I just picked up Splinter Cell for my XBOX a few weeks ago as a Platinum Hits title, and I'm absolutely loving it--even if it does have a high mission-failed-try-again aspect to it. I think the game does an amazing job with the light meter in letting you know how hidden you are, and the sneaking ability and enemy AI reactions (both to visual and audio things) is just great. My understanding is that Manhunt has some of these elements; I am curious as to how it compares to Splinter Cell in the stealth/enemy AI things I mentioned above. For those who've played both, what do you think? (and yes, I do have a PS2 as well--I should mention that before someone says "you have an XBOX, Manhunt's only on PS2!" :) ) |
Is Manhunt coming to the XBOX ever?
|
For those who haven't played and are curious as to the level of violence that can be "rewarded" (*WARNING* MAJOR SPOILERS - Adults Only - Extremely Graphic):

Interesting that you brought up Splinter Cell. When I started playing Manhunt I immediately thought to myself "This is just like Splinter Cell with a different, more violent presentation".
If you liked Splinter Cell and don't have a problem with gruesome violence than this game is for you. I'm going to elaborate on the violence a bit so you can have a better understanding. I'm all for freedom of speech, especially when it comes to video games. I loved Mortal Kombat up to GTA III and thought the violence was "cool" and really didn't have a problem with it. This game is a little different for me, the violence depicted in this game is a bit more over the top and a bit more realistic. Unlike GTA III, the violence in this game is more "accessible" for children to mimic. I remember having a slight concern for parents who bought GTA III for their kids, and there was that one instance where some kids were sniping people on the highway. This game proves much more dangerous in the impression it will leave the simple minded. I'll get off my soap box for now... |

Yeah, I brought up Splinter Cell because I know it's touted as a "stealth" game, and it's really my first intro to the genre. I don't even know what else is out there in the genre; I just remember reading about Manhunt, and when it was describing the stealth aspects of it, keeping to the shadows, not making noise, etc. I thought "wow that sounds kinda like Splinter Cell."
I watched that video, and...wow. Let me first say that I've seen my share of Faces of Death/Traces of Death/*********** pictures and the like, but I don't think I was quite prepared for the level of brutality I saw in that video. It definitely left me feeling a little uneasy. After the video was over, I immediately felt like this should be the first game garnered with the AO (Adults Only) rating. Just from what I saw in the video, it seemed to go far beyond the M-rated games I've played (including GTA III/Vice City). So why isn't this game rated AO? Is "AO" the "kiss of death" as far as games go (similar to how an NC-17 rating on a movie would keep it out of a lot of theaters)? I simply can't imagine how this game isn't AO-rated, unless AO is reserved for more sexually graphic/themed games. |
The game looks pretty cool, but if I had kids I would not let them go near this game.
That said I will buy it for myself when I get around to getting another PS2. :D |
I was curious about this, but it doesn't sound like me cup of tea.
I hated Splinter Cell, as I'm not big on stealth games in general. Its just too much trial and error, and that makes the game feel more like work than fun for me. Too much violence is a turn off for me as well. |
I am look forward to playing this game. I was watching my room mate play it and it looks like a lot of fun.
|
Yeah, fun for the whole family. :)

I'm going to HELL because I had no probelm with the level of violence. I actually chuckled at several scenes. Man, I wish RESIDENT EVIL would notch it up a bit in this area. 2. It's about time they made a game for "ADULTS" . I have NO problem banning the Under 18 crowd from buying this. Although, enforcing that is hard. 3. I better buy this before they ban it or censor it. |

You know, I wish more "adult games" would focus on indepth and thought-provoking plotlines instead of gratuitous violence and sex.
|
I also think this game deserved the AO rating.

Yep, this combined with Resident Evil would be be cool. Wouldn't feel to bad about offing some zombies in such gruesome ways as they are already dead :D I guess I look for an escape in games. I have two small kids and deal with all the little fuzzy animal characters, etc all the time. I play video games to do things I could never do in real life. |
Originally posted by illennium That's ****ing despicable. Had they depicted children being raped and killed in the same manner, I'm certain and have faith in humanity that the game could never get published nor would it ever be successful if it ever got published. |
Most of that video looked surveillance footage that gave me a headache. There were a few scenes of what looked like in-game footage though when the dude picked up someone he killed and carried him down the steps and a couple more where he was shooting cops or something. What part does the surveillance video play in the game? You don't actually have to play in that mode do you?
