Holy crap. When I look at those shots, I see a touch of antialiasing (as happens IRL with a 2MP digital camera), but that's literally the only feature I can point out to distinguish them from real photos. That's fantastic.
I'm glad to see it, in part, because we might be reaching the end of a ten-year run in boosting eye candy. It doesn't get much better than those. Once developers have the means to display virtually anything they can imagine, they'll have to start competing on content and gameplay again.

Seems like every game that has been in development for forever that we've been waiting for are being delayed all around the same time . But its better wait than play a bad game.

Gives you the feeling that the longer they delay, the greater expectations and hype get. Then it gets harder for games to meet these expectations. Like, how can they be off by up to a year on release dates?

Apparently the background is not just a bitmap! If that's the case then this is insane! From IGN's mailbag:
Q:
There are so many people over the net wondering if the background canyon is rendered in 3d via ps2's hardware or just a photo backdrop. I have read so many articles about gt4 that leads me to believe they made the canyon instead of copy and paste on a background.
A:
Ed responds: I just talked to a representative for SCEA and he told me that it is indeed being rendered in the game with some proprietary system that they've developed for GT4. The same technique is used in the Italy level.

First pics of the GT4 photo mode and car select screens. I like how you can look at the cars in chronological order as well. Picture mode looks way more advanced/involved than I though it would be.
