Yeah, I'm looking at picking up GT4 Prelude for my brother as a gift, but I don't know if he'll be able to play it. Hopefully there's some Pro Action Replay trick to get it to play.

I'm looking forward to Dragon Quest 5 Remix.. seeing as how Enix ****ed us out of the excellent Dragon Quest 4 Remix the the other year I am fully expecting them to pretend the game doesn't exsist.

I've been checking around but haven't found one yet. I don't want to modify my PS2 either.

I have no idea if this stuff works so you may want to ask around first. I saw it on a email ad they sent me. UH for anyone who does use this WTF is with the slide part just what do you slide and where? What one is the best?

Just for a good laugh someone paid $90 for this thing.

Theres a couple of ways to play imports without a mod chip. Do a search for ps2 flip top, and ps2 slide card on yahoo. Along with that you would need the 2 boot discs, whole deal ends up costing like $30-$45 without the risk of breaking your ps2 during a mod chip install.

I wonder if the slide card would potentially burn out the tray motor, since the concept seems like it forces the tray out to swap discs. That's probably why the flip top is also available.

Interesting though, anyone use these methods?

Also would any of these work on a PAL PS2? I would assume that you would need a different loader disc from the one for US PS2s.

I'm giving this a bump..

I'm probably going to break down and buy Ys I & II Eternal Story; now a girl I know *may* be getting a Japanese PS2 and we agreed that she'd let me borrow it to play Ys if I let her borrow Ys when I was done with it.

Of course.. I don't see this happening soon, so I would like to just get the game and play it on another friends machine.

Why I am bumping this is because I'd like to know if ANYBODY here has actually tried any of the methods above, or other methods to play imports on a US PS2.. I want to hear somebody actually say "Yes, this works.. I've been playing (Jappy Game) happily!" before I drop the cash for the game AND boot device.

I'm just going to break down and buy a Japanese PS2. I hear a certain mod chip is actually burning out PS2 just recently. I have a friend that can get me one for $150 brand new. Just want a normal colored one w/o the fancy stuff. I definetly wouldn't suggest a modchip anymore.

Ah.. so frustrating. Sadly there's more games coming out in Japan that won't be seen over here that I'd rather play than what's been released over here so far for the PS2.
