Mario and Luigi

Does anybody know anything about this game? I planned on picking it up tomorrow at Best Buy for $19.99 after coupon, but there's not a single review to be found anywhere.

PixyJunket 11-17-03 02:43 PM

Seeing as I LOVED Paper Mario, I'm picking this up sight unseen.

 Me too. I combined it with my ebgames.com preorder for MK: DD, with no tax and free overnight shipping.

Ralph Wiggum 11-17-03 03:39 PM

I can't wait for this either.

Must...finish...Fire Emblem...quickly.

GatorDeb 11-17-03 03:45 PM

I'll be renting it and playing the heck out of it for a week. Looking forward to this  After purchasing Fire Emblem sight unseen and hating it (I left it unfinished), it pains me to not be able to pick this up sight unseen as I'm sure it's great.

The story was blah but the gameplay rocked! I'm actually kinda caught off-guard - i didn't realize how soon this game was coming out!

I called BB today and they said they would have it in stock Thursday...can't wait!

After the monumental disaster that was Paper Mario, I have no faith in Nintendo any longer.

LOL!

Seriously, that's cool. I know people that HATED Paper Mario, even though they liked Super Mario RPG.

Setzer 11-17-03 06:39 PM

Sorry man, I couldn't help but throw that in :)

Actually I enjoyed Super Mario RPG I just didn't care for Paper Mario. Maybe Mario & Luigi will be better? Who knows but at least I'm going to give it a chance even if Paper Mario was a 'monumental disaster'. ;)

nickdawgy 11-17-03 06:56 PM

So the lesson here is read a review before you buy a game?

:D

CreatureX 11-17-03 07:17 PM

Oh man I remember I almost passed on Paper Mario. But then I read the five star review it received from Next-Generation magazine, I had to check it out. Paper Mario is not only a great Mario game, but it's also one of the best RPG's I've ever played.

High praise came from another late great gaming site, The GIA, when many of The GIA editors awarded Paper Mario as best game of 2001, ahead of other great 2001 games such as FFX, MGS2 and ICO!

Bring on Mario and Luigi! :D

Jtnguyen12 11-17-03 09:00 PM

Already Got Mario Party 5 ... now... Mario & Luigi coming out tomorrow = Free Zelda Classics Disc right!!! :)

Can't Wait

Closing Comments
Paper Mario was a great adventure on the Nintendo 64, and Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga is an excellent adventure on the Game Boy Advance. The GBA game's an entirely original adventure that shares elements from the past RPG, and definitely does a lot to satisfy that itch many gamers have of wanting an original Mario platformer on the handheld. We're happy to get something Mario related that's not only incredibly fun to play, it's entirely the GBA's own property and opens the door for more in a potential series

The easy to get Best Buy Gamer's Gift Card coupon, good for $5 off any game or accessory at BB or CC. See the FAQ for more

Todays the day!

sjividen 11-18-03 01:42 PM

Well, of course I travelled the 30+ miles to Best Buy and they didn't have it in stock yet. In fact, the manager of that department didn't have a clue which game I was talking about: "You mean Mario Advance 4? We've got all kinds of copies of that."

Luckily there was a CC right there as well and they had a copy, though it had to be retrieved from the warehouse. They also agreed to accept the BB $5 coupon.

darkside 11-18-03 04:12 PM

I loved Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario so this is a must buy.

Last paragraph

In the end, Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga is an impressive new entry in the Mario franchise that is not to be missed. Strong visuals, a goofy story, rich gameplay, and a lengthy quest all combine to make one of the best experiences on the Game Boy Advance this year. It's also one that has some merits when played on the GameCube as well, thanks to the game's support of rumble when used with the Game Boy Player. The only beef to be had is with the lack of any kind of multiplayer support, but that's a minor point. As the first entry in what may well be a Game Boy Advance series, Mario and Luigi delivers in every way.

But wait, what is it about?

Saving a princess?

Or becoming an international pop star?

Setzer 11-19-03 03:25 PM

I went to pick up FFX-2 today and I had to decide between a $29.99 limited edition strategy guide or picking up Mario & Luigi for $29.99. It was a tough decision but I ended up going with the game. :D

PixyJunket 11-19-03 03:29 PM

I played this a bit it looks to be very awesome. I can't wait to buy it.

Jtnguyen12 11-19-03 04:05 PM

Pickup my Copy at CC yesterday after Bestbuy coupon $19.49 plus taxes

very fun game :)

zero 11-19-03 04:28 PM

Between this and the broadband adapter and my subscription to Nintendo Power = Zelda Disc, Im praying my check includes the overtime I had on friday I got a few bills to pay .

sdcrym 11-22-03 03:52 PM

I'm about 12 hours into this game so far. I got this and Mario Kart, and Mario and Luigi has been getting a lot more play time, probably because I play video games more than most people I know.

My only complaint so far is that the game's story is too linear. I want some sidequests or something like that. It's almost too easy, even thought it's really fun to play.

GatorDeb 11-22-03 06:01 PM

I'm about 2 hours in and I'm having a blast. This game is AWESOME.

nickdawgy 11-22-03 06:20 PM

I never played Paper Mario or Mario RPG, so would I like this game?

Galanthas 11-23-03 03:01 PM

Picked this up Thursday. So far I'm having a blast, yes it's a little on the easy side, but most jrpg's are now it seems. I have 12 hours clocked in at the moment and I'm at
Spoiler:
Oho island or some such
.

It's suprising how much voice they were able to squeeze into the cart and it sounds decent to. If you like old mario games Nickdawgy I would imagine you would most likely enjoy this as well.

That's a rather vague statement.

My 8-Ball says "Rent it if possible and decide yourself."

GatorDeb 11-23-03 07:45 PM

I put in a few more hours and absolutely positively am loving every second of it. I haven't had this much fun since AW2. I'm at
Spoiler:
the part where you have to break the rock and then go into the tiny holes
. The controls are wonderful, the story is passable, and this is the best of platforming with the best of RPG. They nailed it.

One thing I don't like is that some puzzles are away from a save point so that I'm leaving the GBA on for extended periods of time while I go clear my head and then come back to the game.

Perhaps a vacation from games is in order :D

I just got this game and I agree, its excellent. Right down to the animation, music, story, everything about it is awesome. And the dialogue and story are actually pretty funny too considering. This is GOTY material here, its a serious contender :).

Galanthas 11-26-03 12:14 PM

I finished the game last night. Took me 24 game time hours to finish. It was fun the whole time, until the end anyway. After playing all that time you get a crappy ending *sigh* I'm getting sick of these crappy endings in rpg's.

I'm very anal about game endings, I haven't really been impressed with any this gen. I don't like to play a game for 20 odd hours and finally get a substandard ending to a story.

darkside 11-26-03 09:23 PM

Two hours in and really enjoying it. So far its even better than Paper Mario. If only Super Mario RPG would get released on the GBA.

GatorDeb 12-09-03 05:20 PM

I need some help please :)

I'm at Yoohoo, Wahoo, you-know-which-one-I-mean University, at the place with the solar panels.

Spoiler:
I got one of the two set of solar panels working and the door opened and I get to a room with a bunch of closed little areas (with the metal on the floor and the closed doors with bars) and I don't know what else to do. There's another set of solar panels that's not activated. I'm just walking back and forth now :(

Help? Thanks! :)

If it's where I think it is, you need to squish Mario. Jump through a little opening on the bottom left closed area I think, climb up to the ceiling and walk around the the top to the other closed areas. Hope I'm thinking of the same place heh.

I thought these two were great too, although I finished Super Mario RPG in one weekend. Kinda had to since I had borrowed it from my boss at the time and wanted to get it back to her. I hope Mario and Luigi takes a lot longer to finish.
