Review wanted for Xbox wireless controllers.
 

What is the best one and are any of them like the Xbox contoller S?

I have the Logitech one and I like it a lot. Only thing is... I rarely ever play my xbox. Being the case, the batteries will still run out quickly. I think the feel and the size of the controller are fine. It's definitely expensive though--I took advantage of the 20% rebate from Logitech when I got mine, cause I'd have never spent $70 on it.

I also have the Logitech. 2 of them as a matter of fact. By far the best available.

I really don't need wireless though so I am interested in selling them.

Has anyone tried the new Pelican controller? It's a lot cheaper than the Logitech one.

I have both the Logitech and the Pelican Eclipse wireless controllers. The Logitech is large and well built and everything feels solid, my only complaint is the D-pad. It's pretty awful for anything that requires precision (Soul Calibur 2). I only paid $50 for it on sale at Best Buy a few months back.

The Pelican Eclipse is smaller and feels more like the Controller S than the Logitech one. The D-Pad is way better than the Logitech one and maybe even a tad better than the Controller S. The analog sticks feel nice but the other buttons all have a cheap feel to them even though they haven't let me down yet. I also like the fact that a separate Black and White button are put ont he shoulders of the controller.

Anyway... I actually prefer the Pelican to the Logitech. The Pelican is also has a $30 lower MSRP.

does the pelican have a memory slot so you can use the headset?

I believe the part that you plug into your xbox does. But I guess that would negate the advantage of using a wireless controller, wouldn't it?

no, the headset/mike plugs into the controller's memory slot (one of the 2).

there's nothing that goes to the xbox directly from the headset. so, you'd still be wireless.

the real question is, will the xbox live headset work on these wireless controllers?

I have the Pelican and I love it. I don't like the Logitech one cuz it's too big and oddly shaped (yet, I like the original xbox controller more than the S - go figure). I also don't like the MadCatz one cuz of the shape. The Pelican has more range than the Wavebird and the batteries have yet to run out on me and I've had it for several months.

I don't know about the Live headset thing - I could check i suppose - but it's wireless, so i use it for stuff that I don't need a headset for. I have different controllers for different purposes.

Just how much range does it have? I remember the IGN reviewer used his Wavebird from 90 feet away.

I am very pleased with the Pelican wireless and find it to be very reasonably priced at 39.99

Pelican wireless here. I have been extremely pleased for the $35 bucks I paid for it...even if it had cost more. Its also the only third-party controller I've used that has good analog sticks. You do have to mash on the buttons a tad more, but you get used to it.

I don't know - I have a 1800 square foot house and I went into the kitchen with it and then down the hall to the end bedroom and went inside it. I even went outside with it - front door and back. Maybe it was the batteries, but my roommate's Wavebird couldn't manage quite that far. I probably spoke too soon though - I should pop new batteries in each controller and test out the distance. Doesn't really matter I guess cuz I can't see the need to play from that far away from the TV.

I like the Logitech. I've had it almost a year now. Batteries drain quick though, because of the vibrate. I turn it off in game.

What I love is the sensitivity of the analog sticks. Very smooth.

Lack of a memory card slot for the X-box live headset sucks though. But where would you put the batteries?

I have 2 Pelicans as well. Love it.

Would love to know if it works with the headset.. that would be smooth.. I'm sure it doesnt though :(

Im pretty sure the Pelicans do not work with the headset... I remember trying it a while ago with no luck... Can anyone confirm? My XBL membership has expired...

Lack of a headset port in the controller has kept me from getting a wireless controller, but I think they're coming out with a wireless headset. So, for a combined $200 you can go wireless on XBL.

The batteries plug into the spot for the headset or memory cards on the pelican wireless. The base unit has the headset/memory slots so that is not wireless.

If you buy one of those bluetooth headsets with the 2.5mm adapter, you could go with the wireless controller and wireless headset. it'll only cost you $150 or so. ;)

ok, sorry... i re-read your post and now that i'm a bit more awake, i understand what you're saying.

the wireless controller has a part that plugs into the xbox and that part has the memory slots. so the headset would need to connect to that and thus, defeating the purpose of the wireless-ness.

I just saw a new wireless one today that looked awesome. I almost picked it up, but instead decided to go home and try to order it online cheaper.

Anyway - it's from a new company called Intech. It comes in Black and Green - it's the Intech Lazer Wireless controller. It was 50 bucks at most places, but I picked it up for 40 at buy.com. Might be cheaper elsewhere, but I was picking up other stuff too, so it worked for me. It has abxy buttons that are skewed kinda like the original Xbox controller - and that's what I like. It also comes with a rechargeable battery pack and charger. The base also has slots for memory cards and I'm thinking the headset too. Not to mention that it's pretty good looking too - nice comfy looking design - smaller than the original controller - metallic accent panels. I'm gonna try it out and post my findings here - it should be here in a week or so.

So that's 4 now as far as I know - not sure about these prices...

Logitech - 80-90 bucks
Intech - 40-50 bucks
Pelican - 30-40 bucks
MadCatz - 40-50 bucks

well my logitech started acting up this week. The left analog is loose.. i.e. if I sit the controller down and don't even touch it the character on screen moves. Not good.

Called Logitech, they are sending me a replacement and don't want the broken one back. I may have to crack it open after the new one arrives and see if I can fix it. That way... 2 Logitechs. Kudos, to them for their warranty and standing behind their products. :up:
