Does anyone here play Neopets?

Or is this for younger kids only?

My seven-year-old daughter is obsessed with this game and my wife sorta is too-mainly to help my daughter with some aspects of the game.

She says this is the next big thing ALA Pokemon.

BTW, this is my first time in the VGF. Please be gentle.

Wow. I played it for about 3 days in like 2000 or something. I've been scared recently at how it's expanded to toys and cards now.

My one online buddy is really into this stuff. She has all types of Neopets stuff. I've tried to get into it a few times so I can see what it is all about but I just can't do it.

My 12-yr-old daughter (and all of her friends) were waaaaaaaaaaaay into it a year or year-and-a-half ago.

All I heard about was guilds and stores and neo-this and neo that. I catch her messing around with it once in awhile now, but it seems that it's not so popular with her age group anymore.

My ex-girlfriend was real into it. She would play the games to earn money and buy her stupid pet things like a bag of gravel and a half-eaten green pepper omelette (no joke). I never saw the novelty of it, seems like an online tamagotchi with mini-games and battles, probably one of my subconscious reasons for breaking up with her.

As for the game itself, it seemed like there was a fairly large online community based around it and the world you could "explore" was big as well. I dismissed it as girly stuff. I would say if you dig the tamagotchi and pokemon stuff you'll probably like it.

I checked this out, but I couldn't get into it. At least with Pokemon there is a game wrapped around everything. This just seems pointless.

Of course, females have a lot different demands than males in games, so it doesn't surprise me that this might appeal to a young girl. It's pretty much still an untapped market in video games.

I played around with it like 4 years ago, there were a lot of fun little mini java games.
